Dr. Shemen came highly recommended to me by my endocrinologist. After struggling with Hashimoto's Thyroiditis (hypothyroidism & enlarged thyroid) for nearly 20 years, it was time for me to have my thyroid removed. Dr. Shemen did an evaluation, and quickly confirmed my thyroid needed to come out. My research revealed he is one of the top surgeons for this procedure in the area, and after meeting him and interacting with him, he gave me the confidence I needed to go forward with the surgery.

The best oto diagnostician and surgeon. I was referred to him by several 'best' doctors after a few unhappy experiences with other ENT's who were not his equal. He performed a sinus endoscopy on me in 2007 and I've had no problem since. He's not a hand-holder but if you need a really top-level doctor he's the one. I seee him once a year now to make sure everything's copasetic.

Dr. Shemen's Care Philosophy

Our goal is to provide the very best and current surgical care for patients with thyroid, parathyroid, salivary gland tumors or head and neck tumors. While removing the entire tumor, our aim is to maintain or restore form and function to patients with these conditions.

Dr. Shemen says...

I have been treating patients with head and neck conditions for over 31 years following the completion of the Head and Neck Fellowship at Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center. This experience includes the performance of over 7000 thyroidectomies and 800 parathyroidectomies.

Additionally, I have performed a similar number of sinus surgeries for the treatment of chronic sinusitis.

I have published 70 articles or chapters dealing with head and neck tumors, sinus surgery, thyroid, parathyroid and salivary gland surgery.

We use state of the art technology in the operating room including nerve monitoring, image localization, Ligasure and hemostatic agents.

Dr. Shemen says...

I perform all the procedures myself with residents assisting. I only run one operating room at a time, so the patient on the table has my full focus of attention. Over the course of 31 years, I have seen most anomalies and have tackled the most difficult and complicated cases with excellent outcomes.

Over the course of this time frame, I have incorporated several technical innovations that enable me to perform my surgeries through minimal incisions and with minimal blood loss.

I was trained by the very best surgical instructors at the University of Toronto, Cedars Sinai and Memorial Sloan Kettering and thank them for all the guidance they provided during my training.
