Dr. de la Cruz's bio

This content was provided by Dr. de la Cruz "I am a board-certified thoracic surgeon specializing in all aspects of cardiac and thoracic surgical conditions and treatments. I obtained my medical degree from the University of the Philippines in 2000. I then completed my General Surgery residency at The Brooklyn Hospital Center in New York, an institution affiliated with New York Presbyterian-Weill Cornell Medical College from 2002-2007. I moved to Houston to pursue my passion to become a Cardiovascular and Thoracic Surgeon and completed the Thoracic Surgery residency at the combined Texas Heart Institute/Baylor College of Medicine program in 2010. I did an additional year of Cardiothoracic Surgery fellowship in the same institution, focusing on Aortic Surgery with my mentor Dr. Joseph S. Coselli. After fellowship, I was recruited and stayed on as faculty, and currently an Assistant Professor of Surgery in the Division of Cardiothoracic Surgery, Michael E. DeBakey Department of Surgery, Baylor College of Medicine; I am also staff Cardiovascular and Thoracic Surgeon at the Texas Heart Institute at Baylor St. Luke's Medical Center. I treat diseases of the aorta, heart valves, coronary arteries, and heart and/or lung failure. I am a member of many societies including the Society of Thoracic Surgeons, the American College of Surgeons, the Association for Academic Surgery, and the Association for Surgical Education. I am also a member of the Michael E. DeBakey International Surgical Society, the Denton A. Cooley Cardiovascular Surgical Society, and the Cooley Hands Society. I am author or co-author on numerous publications. I am well aware of the importance of studying each patient's case as its own unique instance. I work closely with my medical team to find the best way to treat you. I am devoted to targeting the problem and will not stop until the most effective treatment plan is achieved - whether medical or surgical -whether open, endovascular, or a combination of both (hybrid approach)."
