Dr. Kevin Taheri grew up in New Orleans, Louisiana. He completed his undergraduate education in biology at the University of Texas at Austin and achieved University Honors. He continued his studies at Tulane University, where he obtained a Master of Science degree in pharmacology. It was during that time that he contributed to the post Hurricane Katrina rebuilding of his hometown. Dr Taheri attended the University of Texas Medical School at Houston, in the Texas Medical Center, and graduated with his Doctor of Medicine in 2010. He completed his residency in Otolaryngology – Head and Neck Surgery at Louisiana State University Health Sciences Center in New Orleans. During that time Dr Taheri performed research on the role of methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus (MRSA) in pediatric neck infections. He has presented at both local and national conferences, including a presentation of a novel technique for minimally invasive balloon opening of the nasolacrimal (tear) duct. Dr. Taheri was also a resident research and Triological Society award winner for developing a new method for non-surgical repair of eardrum perforations. Dr Taheri sees both pediatric and adult patients. He is interested in all general ear, nose, and throat procedures including the treatment of allergies, chronic sinusitis, and balloon sinuplasty. He also treats nasal obstruction (deviated septum) including nose reshaping (rhinoplasty). He performs head and neck surgery, treating both thyroid and parathyroid disease. He has performed many extensive reconstructive surgeries in the head and neck after skin cancer and other malignancies. Dr Taheri currently serves on the Texas Oncology head and neck cancer prospective planning committee for the Austin area. He has advanced training in laser microsurgery for hoarseness, vocal cord lesions and airway stenosis. Dr Taheri is one of the only providers in Austin to perform sialendoscopy. Sialendoscopy is a minimally invasive procedure designed to treat recurrent infections of the parotid and submandibular salivary glands (sialoadenitis), and remove salivary stones (sialolithiasis). Sialendoscopy is a gland sparing outpatient procedure that requires no surgical incisions, leaves no scars, and carries zero percent risk of facial nerve paralysis. Dr Taheri studied under one of the innovators of this procedure, Dr Rohan Walvekar, at LSU Health Sciences Center in New Orleans. Dr Taheri is excited to join the Ear, Nose, Throat and Allergy Center of Austin. In his free time, he enjoys Longhorn sports, attending live music concerts, and spending time with his wife, Karen and son, George. Together they can be found exploring the parks and restaurants of the city.
