I had a 3 level fusion 4 years ago and am in much more pain than I ever experienced pre Surgery. Was told I would be back to running 6 months post surgery, instead I live in pain. Please look at other alternatives and absolutely do not get Spinal Fusion Surgery from Dr. Schoenfelder

In general, I would recommend Dr. Schoenfelder. He is very knowledgeable and really took the time to help me understand my back issues MAjor issue: their office policy is to not prescribe pain meds (to anyone). They require you to get them from your primary care doc. My primary care doc implied that this is irresponsible - I agree. This makes the doc prescribing meds once removed from the doc that really knows what the patient needs. Clearly not in the best interest of the patient.

I had an appointment with Schoenfelder. Instead, of the surgeon coming in to review the mri and xrays, Brend Lee, ARNP reviewed the images and gave medical information and advice. I was thinking to myself, what the heck is this? The surgeon can't meet with the patient? I was not comfortable with that and decided Not to further my care under him. I will be asking for my xrays and mri disk and am going to go else where for a correct diagnosis and procedure.

My husband had quite an extensive neck surgery that involved 8 vertebraes. Dr Schoenfelder has been a lifesaver in getting him back to functioning at a high level without living with pain. I would highly recommend him and his professional team of experts. He really emphasizes promoting good posture habits that prevent further injury to spines.

Dr Schoenfelder operated on my lower back more than a decade ago. His protocol back then was to do everything he could to avoid the operation which I followed but in the end he determined that the surgery was necessary. I too was seen my his PA many times for my appointments, my experiences with his PA were excellent, same goes for the Nursing and front office Staff. I'm starting to experience similar problems with my back that I had 15 years ago, I'm planning to return to Dr Schoenfelder.

Dr. Schoenfelder performed my surgery in 2011 and my husband's in 2016. Before my surgery, I was having so much leg pain that I could hardly walk. Nothing eased the pain. I decided I couldn't put off surgery. Waking up, my first words were "there's no more leg pain!" I was walking around within hours of the surgery, and went home the following morning. 5 years later, still no back problems. My husband had the same great experience. Dr. Schoenfelder is a genius! Highly recommend.

If you go to Dr Schoenfelder don't expect to see him. You will have to deal with his RN & PA for the most part. They will tell you completely opposite information, neither of them are very knowledgeable. The PA William Hartman is very rude and condescending. I ended up having decompression surgery for lower back pain. Dr Schoenfelders PA lied to my insurance company stating that I had leg pain so they would pay for it. I found that out when I requested my medical records. I did not see Dr S unt
