Conditions Treated

Dr. Altman says..

I have been in practice long enough to remember when diseases such as multiple sclerosis and Alzheimer’s were not treated with medication. Therefore, I have extensive experience in treating these conditions, and others like them – both without and with medication. This gives me a great perspective on how to address and treat a patient’s condition and the expertise to know when it is appropriate to prescribe a medication and when it is better for the patient to use a different type of treatment. I also have extensive experience reviewing MRIs and I still review each patient’s brain and spinal MRIs.

Why Does Experience Matter?

Even specialists specialize. One orthopedic surgeon might do nothing but hip surgeries, while another does nothing but knees. If you want the best possible care, it’s critical to match your medical need with the doctor who truly specializes in treating it.

Dr. Altman says...

As a neurologist in practice for more than 25 years, I have witnessed a great evolution in the treatment of the nervous system. My associates and I are committed to seeing urgent referrals from healthcare providers within one week.

I was in private practice in Pennsylvania before coming to Metro Health in 2008 to establish a general neurology practice to serve local primary care providers as well as provide hospital consultation services. I have served as the Medical Director of Metro Health’s Primary Stroke Center since 2008.

Dr. Altman's Care Philosophy

My philosophy is to give patients the time they need to understand their medical history and find out what their concerns are. This is very important, as I have found many patients have not had the opportunity to tell their entire story.

I meet with each patient and discuss potential diagnoses and tests with them in easy-to-understand terms. Patients with significantly abnormal MRI’s are seen back promptly for personal review. I review all new patient records prior to the visit to help facilitate the initial visit and make it easier on the patient.
