Dr. Givens' bio
This content was provided by Dr. Givens "Outside the office, Dr. Givens describes himself as a lifelong naturalist and semi-professional nature photographer. "In fact it was my love of photography, with all its lenses and cameras and gadgets, that led me to ophthalmology as a specialty," he says. Since the 1980s he has published numerous images in books, magazines, calendars and greeting cards. He also has lectured widely on the topic of closeup nature photography, including talks at Geisinger Medical Center and Hershey Medical Center. First-time visitors to Campus Eye Center are often amazed by the large gallery of Dr. Givens' colorful and exquisitely detailed photos on display there. They are equally surprised to learn that many of these beautiful subjects, from showy giant silkmoths to unusually shaped mushrooms, were photographed in Dr. Givens' own yard. "The real beauty of closeup nature photography," he says, "is that you can find interesting subjects almost anywhere.""
This content was provided by Dr. Givens "I've seen too many ophthalmology practices that are focused on maximizing the number of patients seen per day. That has never been my goal; in fact, I have "inherited" a lot of patients who have left such practices. My paramount objective is and has always been to provide high-quality eye care to the residents of Lancaster County.
My golden rule is to treat every patient as I would like to be treated myself. This means spending as much time with my patients as their problems require, listening to their concerns and thoroughly answering all their questions. Doing this right takes time, and I confess that sometimes I get behind on my appointment schedule because some patients require extra time."
