Dr Merkatz is all business. He is smart and cuts to the chase. Not an alarmist. What he lacks in personality is offset by his intelligence. He is not warm and fuzzy but I personally wouldn't want that in a cardiologist. He is fine in my book

I was referred to Dr. Merkatz by a local hospital for follow up after discharge. At my initial appointment he came in and barely said hello and clearly had no idea who I was or why I was there. If you make a patient wait for an hour, take five more minutes and read their chart before you come in the room. He didn’t have data from the testing I had completed, left the room to try and find it without saying a word about what he was doing or when he would be back. He didn’t answer my questions and literally had not looked at one bit of my medical record. To say the appointment was a waste of time was an understatement. I found him to be arrogant and off-putting and completely unhelpful.

I have been in Dr. Merkatz's care for close to 2 decades and not once have had an issue with his level of expertise and care. He has saved my life several times, and is always keeping up with the latest research to continually advance his knowledge for himself and his patients. He has always gone above and beyond for me to take care of my case just like the example when he got hit by a car at the hospital, and still after all that came to see me while hospitalized. He takes care of my whole fam

Dr Merkatz saved my life. I suffered from a rare life threatening condition that went undiagnosed for 7 yrs by 6 different cardiologists. Dr Merkatz reviewed my history in detail & proceeded to diagnose my disease. I had the life saving surgery I required. The medical profession needs more physicians with the integrity intelligence & empathy of Dr. Merkatz. I speak not only from the perspective of a patient, but also as an RN with many years of experience in critical care.

I would NOT recommend him, because (1) he didn't answer my question that I brought to him: why was breathing harder walking uphill -- was it the asthma or the heart; (2) he didn't explain the tests he ordered, why he was doing the tests that he was doing, nor what the tests told him; and (3) he strung out the appointments over several visits (I specifically heard staff say to schedule another visit that insurance would pay more) when he could have done it in two visits.
