Dr. Penney's bio

This content was provided by Dr. Penney "Becoming a doctor was a dream of mine since high school. I experienced the medical process first hand in college, when I had to undergo a major shoulder surgery and saw the amazing results that a skilled orthopedic surgeon could achieve. Orthopaedic surgery became my calling. I knew at this point that this was my gift and the way I could best contribute to and serve my community. With additional training in sports medicine at Duke University, it allowed me to stay true to my athletic roots. As a two sport athlete at Cornell University, I understand the athlete and his/her competitive spirit. This is why I serve as the medical director of the sports medicine and athletic training department at Charlotte Hungerford Hospital.I provide medical coverage to five local area high schools, personally providing game coverage and attending many of the football games. As a solo practitioner , I strive to provide the best possible orthopedic care to my patients in the most convenient, comfortable setting possible. It is this personalized , attentive care which sets my practice apart from others. Unlike larger practices, I am always available to my patients and you will never feel like just a number, rushed in and out of the office. My entire staff works hard to make your visit worthwhile and productive, as we realize that you have invested your valuable time and have entrusted us with your or your loved ones' care. We do not take this lightly and continue to strive to provide the best possible orthopaedic care in the entire northwest corner of Connecticut."

Care Philosophy

This content was provided by Dr. Penney "I believe in focusing on the patient as an individual. No two patients or conditions are exactly alike. I carefully consider the issues and concerns raised by my patients and combine that with a thorough examination, to make the best decision possible for patient care.  Not every condition requires surgical intervention. I try, whenever possible, to recommend conservative care and treatment. When surgery is required, I make sure my patient has a thorough understanding of the procedure and post-operative course and am always available to answer any questions or concerns that may arise.  "

At first glance I thought this guy was compassionate. However, he seems more about money than about patient care. First visit got the PA and 3 minutes with the good doctor. I was billed for his "time" and the PA. Double dipping here? Than I get a cortisone injection and was billed for $2. LOL Than...more

Dr. Penney is awesome. He took care of me on the sidelines of my football game when I hurt my shoulder. I saw him in the office and he told me I needed surgery . I had the surgery in December and my shoulder is as good as new. He tells me I will be able to play football this year without a problem...more

He dismisses you after months of X-rays, MRI's when he feels he cannot help. Recommends you to a clinic which is fine except when you call with a simple question they refuse to take the call saying you are no longer a patient. Also if you tell them there's a problem he never addressed you get the...more
