Dr. Keith Penney, MD
Becoming a doctor was a dream of mine since high school. I experienced the medical process first hand in college, when I had to undergo a major shoulder surgery and saw the amazing results that a skilled orthopedic surgeon could achieve. Orthopaedic surgery became my calling. I knew at this point that this was my gift and the way I could best contribute to and serve my community. With additional training in sports medicine at Duke University, it allowed me to stay true to my athletic roots. As a two sport athlete at Cornell University, I understand the athlete and his/her competitive spirit. This is why I serve as the medical director of the sports medicine and athletic training department at Charlotte Hungerford Hospital.I provide medical coverage to five local area high schools, personally providing game coverage and attending many of the football games. As a solo practitioner , I strive to provide the best possible orthopedic care to my patients in the most convenient, comfortable setting possible. It is this personalized , attentive care which sets my practice apart from others. Unlike larger practices, I am always available to my patients and you will never feel like just a number, rushed in and out of the office. My entire staff works hard to make your visit worthwhile and productive, as we realize that you have invested your valuable time and have entrusted us with your or your loved ones' care. We do not take this lightly and continue to strive to provide the best possible orthopaedic care in the entire northwest corner of Connecticut.

Care Philosophy

I believe in focusing on the patient as an individual. No two patients or conditions are exactly alike. I carefully consider the issues and concerns raised by my patients and combine that with a thorough examination, to make the best decision possible for patient care.  Not every condition requires surgical intervention. I try, whenever possible, to recommend conservative care and treatment. When surgery is required, I make sure my patient has a thorough understanding of the procedure and post-operative course and am always available to answer any questions or concerns that may arise.

At first glance I thought this guy was compassionate. However, he seems more about money than about patient care. First visit got the PA and 3 minutes with the good doctor. I was billed for his "time" and the PA. Double dipping here? Than I get a cortisone injection and was billed for $2. LOL Than I was amazed to be told that he wants hundreds of cash up front BEFORE he schedules surgery. This whole picture lends me to believe he is all about the almighty dollar and his unconcerned patient needs

Dr. Penney is awesome. He took care of me on the sidelines of my football game when I hurt my shoulder. I saw him in the office and he told me I needed surgery . I had the surgery in December and my shoulder is as good as new. He tells me I will be able to play football this year without a problem .I can't wait for the season to start!

Dr Penney injected my shoulder and I was back playing winning tennis in a week!! Love him!
I cannot say enough good things about Dr. Penney and his office staff. Everyone was friendly and helpful. Dr. Penney did my knee surgery this summer and I feel fabulous! I would highly recommend him to anyone who needs an orthopedic surgeon.
Marion, OH |
He dismisses you after months of X-rays, MRI's when he feels he cannot help. Recommends you to a clinic which is fine except when you call with a simple question they refuse to take the call saying you are no longer a patient. Also if you tell them there's a problem he never addressed you get the same answer He does not care about his patients and doesn't listen. . Just say what he wants and walk out,
Thank you very much for your feedback. On occasion patients are referred elsewhere if we feel that we cannot treat your condition properly. We work very hard at returning all phone calls from patients to get their questions answered. I am sorry if you feel like all of your questions were not answered to your satisfaction, we will work harder to improve our response in the future.

Such a great doctor. He fixed my husband's shoulder this fall and now he's ready for golf season!
Scottsdale, AZ |
Issues after surgery were never resolved. My concerns and subsequent limited mobility were never taken serious. Also, his bedside manner was very poor. The quality of my life has been reducted.
We certainly strive for 100 percent satisfaction after any surgical procedure. Unfortunately, this is not always the case. We will continue to try to improve our performance in every possible way. We appreciate your feedback. Thank you.
Litchfield CT |
Angela the office manager is rude. Both my husband and I saw Dr Penney for rotator cuff injuries. We both decided to have our surgeries elsewhere. The final ma in the coffin is that he practices at Charlotte which is a dirty hospital with high infection rates.
Charlotte Hungerford Hospital is a wonderful hospital where Dr. Penney performs many of his surgeries. Dr. Penney's infection rate is extremely low, as he stringently adheres to all appropriate infection control procedures. In the event, that patients do not want surgery at this hospital, for whatever reason, Dr. Penney does perform surgery at local surgery centers. We understand your concerns and appreciate you taking the time to let us know.

Dr Penney and his PA Tia are very nice. The office is great and very helpful and intelligent. Dr Penney does great surgery and post op goes great with the Doc and PA. Follow their post-op data and all is well. I would recommend all people who need surgery to Dr. PENNEY and PA Tia. Thanks Doc and PA you are a great place to go!

He doesn't jump into drastic treatment or extensive testing. He starts out slow and gives patients options. Dr Penney is low key and puts you at east.
