Board certification should be one of your top considerations when choosing a doctor. Board certification is an official recognition given to doctors who have met specific requirements set by national medical specialty boards in the United States.
Board certification indicates that a doctor is highly qualified in the medical field in which he or she practices. A board-certified doctor is more likely than a non-board-certified doctor to have the most current skills and knowledge about how to treat your medical condition.
Dr. Fiman has been treating patients with gastrointestinal disorders for over 25 years. He is Board Certified in Internal Medicine and Gastroenterology, with 2 additional recertifications in Gastroenterology. He is a Fellow of the American College of Gastroenterology, and a Clinical Assistant Professor at the Baylor College of Medicine in Houston. He is a past president of the Texas Gulf Coast Gastroenterology Society. He is also a former United States Naval officer, with a rank of Lieutenant Commander. He has also been listed in The Best Doctors in America for over 10 years.
He has more than 500 patients with inflammatory bowel disease in his practice, one of the largest patient populations with these disorders in the Houston area, outside of the Medical Center. He is one of the few adult gastroenterologists who will see adolescent patients (age 14 ) with these disorders. He also serves on the Medical Advisory Board of the Crohn's and Colitis Foundation, Gulf Coast chapter.
He has performed over 15,000 colonoscopy exams and over 7,000 upper gastrointestinal endoscopies, and his performance on colonoscopies grades out in the top tier of gastroenterologists across the United States.
He has also successfully treated hundreds of patients with symptomatic hemorrhoids with the CRH-O'Regan hemorrhoid banding device, which allows patients to have their hemorrhoids treated in his office in a quick and pain-free manner (some mild discomfort can occur, but there should be no pain with this procedure), and allows them to return to work or full activity in a manner of hours.

Even specialists specialize. One orthopedic surgeon might do nothing but hip surgeries, while another does nothing but knees. If you want the best possible care, it’s critical to match your medical need with the doctor who truly specializes in treating it.
