Dr. Petersen studied Politics and Poverty & Human Capability Studies at Washington and Lee University before completing medical school at the West Virginia School of Osteopathic Medicine. She completed full-spectrum family medicine residency at Grant Medical Center in Columbus, OH, and then rounded off her research training with the Health Policy Fellowship at Georgetown University and the Robert Graham Center. She has held national positions with the American Academy of Family Physicians and continues to work in health policy research and advocacy. Born and raised in the New River Gorge in West Virginia, Dr. Petersen continues to love rock climbing, hiking, and camping, along with playing the piano and singing. She lives in Washington, DC.
