Best mitochondrial myopathy doctor around
It took decades for doctors to figure out what was wrong with me, until I saw dr Ambrus. I’ve been a patient for nearly 20 years now and he has always been kind, informative and concerned about my well being. He is my ‘Dr House’ (but without the drug problem). He has always stood up for me to get the care I need, helping with insurance and other doctors. He takes the time to explain complicated diseases in simple terms so they can be understood by the common person. He seems a jack of all trades when it comes to medicine, knowledgeable about things outside his specialty. The kind of dr who never stops studying. I highly recommend him if you’ve had trouble being properly diagnosed for anything rheumatology or immunology related. I suffer from mitochondrial myopathy which is a rare energy condition. He is the only specialist in this area to deal with this condition. But I would still choose him even if there were other choices.

If there was an option for no stars, I would choose that option. I was told that he was a genius; I found an arrogant physician who failed to admit his mistake. He so insisted that he was correct that he demanded a second biopsy done by his surgeon. That too cam back negative. I now have a scar from that surgeon for no reason. The final straw was when his PA gave me a roll of bandages to wrap my leg in while standing in the HALLWSY! NEVER GO TO HIM YOU WILL SAVE YOURSELF THE ENDLESS WAIT IN HIS WAITING ROOM.

Have been his patient since 2009 for Factor H AHUS. Two of my sisters and a cousin died from this. This would have certainly been me at some point. Rather than listing all the times he saved me from dying and renal failure, I’d like to point out that there were more times that he PREVENTED me from needing to be hospitalized. He monitored me VERY closely and would ALWAYS return my call, gave me a direct number and his email for me or any hospital to reach him 24/7. HE WAS NOT OBLIGATED TO DO THIS. When I first met him I lived in PA and would travel to Buffalo every two weeks to see him before plasma pheresis. He would get me transferred to BGH and saw me EVERYDAY and discuss my treatment with me and my family and answer EVERY QUESTION. he had no admitting privileges, the hospital doctors would have him write orders that they would sign off on. When my insurance company refused to pay for an outrageously expensive drug that wasn’t typically used for my condition, he got it approved!

I was diagnosed with a rare form of a mitochondrial disease in which Dr. Ambrus Jr diagnosed me in 2003 when no other doctor around could figure out what was going on with me. I remember other doctors calling him the Wiz kid because he had so much more knowledge to be able to diagnose people with complex diseases like the mitochondrial disease I have. I owe him so much he is one of a kind human being and the Godfather of Melabolic diseases in Western New York. Thank you Dr. Julian Ambrus Jr.
