Halpern is the premier plastic surgeon in the Tampa Bay are of Florida in the use of endoscopic (mini scar surgery – that incorporates the use of a tiny television camera) on the face, breast and abdomen. In addition Dr. Halpern has lengthy experience with Ultrasonic Assisted Liposuction for body contouring. The doctor has designed a number of techniques and medical instruments in the field of plastic surgery (including the "Halpern Breast Marker" and the "Halpern Universal Endoscopic Retractor"). He is an authority on endoscopic surgery, having lectured to plastic surgeons nationally and internationally (including England and New York). Dr. Halpern has one of the longest experiences utilizing the Sciton Erbium Laser and has helped pioneer its use on laser resurfacing of the skin. Dr. Halpern received a Bachelor of Science degree in biology at the University of Southern California and graduated Summa Cum Laude and Phi Beta Kappa. He received his medical degree at Vanderbilt University School of Medicine. The doctor performed his general surgery residency at the University of South Florida and completed his plastic surgery training in New York. Dr. Halpern is a member of Alpha Epsilon Delta honor society and was named "Outstanding Young Man of America" in 1988. Apart from his practice and training other plastic surgeons, Dr.Halpern has been a volunteer at The Spring (an organization and facility which takes care of battered women and their children) offering not only his surgical skill, but also providing meals, toys, and financial support. In addition he has been a participant in "Operation Smile", an organization which travels to countries less fortunate than ours, and reconstructs congenital deformities. Dr. Halpern has appeared numerous times on the local major network affiliates for new surgical techniques such as the Maury Povich talk show and American Journal, as well as on local shows, such as the Kathy Fountain Show. Dr. Joshua Halpern thinks of his profession as his hobby. He has been artistic for most of his life and he considers his surgeries as works of art. Dr. Halpern states "although I keep current with latest technology I remain conservative in my approach to my patients. Certain classics always remain in style: educating patients and treating them with kindness and respect, being open to new technology, yet remaining safe with those new options, encouraging patients to achieve healthy skin, maintaining a caring staff and having as a goal to achieve the highest standards of care and quality".
