Dr. Joshua J. Berger is a Reproductive Endocrinologist who has balanced his long research career with his time caring for patients. The National Institutes of Health, Duke University and the American Society of Reproductive Medicine selected him for his skills as a clinician and scientist by awarding him the Clinical Research/Reproductive Scientist Training Scholarship (CREST). Following his undergraduate program, Dr. Berger returned to Los Angeles where he began investigating the relationship between diet, obesity and the insulin resistance syndrome. At UCLA, he achieved acclaim for both his teaching skills and his work on the growing pandemic of obesity found in our society. He remains active in ongoing reproductive research through publications, and as a recognized reviewer for scientific journals such as Fertility and Sterility and The American Journal of Obstetrics and Gynecology. While a partner at Kaiser Permanente, Dr. Berger was a member of the Culturally Responsive Care Committee, the Pap Smear Advisory Panel, and was a physician leader involved with the implementation of electronic medical records for the OBGYN department. Dr. Berger also pioneered OBGYN involvement in the Bariatric Core Group Committee by championing women's health screenings prior to bariatric surgery. Fertility and health issues specific to this cohort of patients require special attention as the rapid changes in weight dramatically affect women and their reproduction health and potential. While in Fellowship, his concern for patient safety resulted in an appointment to the Quality Review Committee, while his interests in medical informatics led to his appointment to the IMPACT Physician Advisory Group. With over 15 years of surgical experience, Dr. Berger has received numerous accolades from his peers and is often sought after for difficult reproductive surgery cases. He is fellowship-trained in advanced hysteroscopic, laparoscopic, and robotic techniques related specifically to preserving uterine, fallopian, and ovarian function. Dr. Berger currently resides in Los Angeles with his wife and four children. They enjoy day trips to Disneyland, making sand castles in Redondo Beach, and building Lego structures. An avid music lover and amateur audiophile, Dr. Berger also relishes collecting and rebuilding old audio equipment.
