This content was provided by Dr. Nelson III "'Be receptive and listen' One of my esteemed, wise professors at Medical College of VA gave me these words of advice in my early years of training. The patient will tell you what is ailing them. We try sometimes too quickly to direct the line of sentinel questions. If we give the patient a little more time to clarify their thoughts, the properly trained, astute physician will, in a reasonable period of time, arrive at a correct diagnosis. Similarly, allowing the patient to talk with someone who is willing to truly listen will allow the patient to self-enable and provide their own best therapy. Care involves being willing to listen. This works in Houses of Worship, classrooms, our homes, as well as in the Physician office."
