Dr. Lellman's bio

This content was provided by Dr. Lellman "I grew up in Greenport, NY, the youngest of five. I graduated from Greenport High School in 1978, where I was the valedictorian and captain of the wrestling team. I also played center on the football team, and centerfield on the baseball team. I attended Brown University, and continued wrestling through junior year, when knee problems required surgery, and ended my wrestling career. I was the president of Phi Psi fraternity, and held other offices there as well. I graduated in 1982 with an ScB. degree in aquatic biology. I then attended Albany Medical College, where I was elected to AOA, the honor medical society, and Sigma Chi, a research society. I was also awarded a Health Professions Scholarship with the US Navy, and attended Officer Indoctrination School. I was granted a Naval Active Duty Deferment for Specialists, and did my surgical internship at Dartmouth, followed by my orthopedic surgical residency at the University of Massachusetts Medical Center, completing my training in 1991. I was assigned to the Naval Hospital at Subic Bay, Republic of the Philippines, and was on the decommissioning crew there. I completed my active duty obligation at US Naval Hospital Groton, CT. I have held several civilian orthopedic surgery positions throughout New England since then, including in Derry, NH, New England Orthopedic Surgeons in Northampton, MA, and Hampshire Orthopedics in Northampton, MA, Springfield, VT, and Ware and Palmer, MA. I am married, with four children, and enjoy the outdoors and especially bicycling, including road and cyclocross racing. "

Care Philosophy

This content was provided by Dr. Lellman "In general, I prefer a conservative, non-operative approach to orthopedic care.  Orthopedic problems are rarely life threatening, so urgent surgical treatment isn't necessary for most things except infections and certain fractures or dislocations.  There are inherent risks with surgical treatment, so surgery should be considered only after all other conservative measures have failed.  I am a strong proponent of rehabilitation treatment for many conditions.  By improving posture, flexibility, muscle balance and strength, as well as general fitness, many conditions such as chronic shoulder, hip, and knee pain can be improved.  Weight loss for overweight individuals, and smoking cessation are the two most important steps patients can take to improve their symptoms, reduce the risk of complications, and improve their outcomes when surgery is undertaken.   "

He was arrogant, condescending, and took very little time to explain things or listen.

Dr. Lellman is a total professional. He is knowledgeable, informative and takes time to listen to his patients. He diagnosed two issues, I had, quickly and successfully. This is one sharp fellow. If I have orthopedic issues again, this is the go to MD. I highly recommend this MD.
