Dr. Joseph Haddad Jr. is Professor and Vice Chairman of the Department of Otolaryngology—Head and Neck Surgery, where he also serves as an Associate Dean, and Special Assistant to the Dean for International Affiliations. He is the Lawrence Savetsky Chair and Director of Pediatric Otolaryngology—Head and Neck Surgery at New York-Presbyterian Morgan Stanley Children's Hospital. Dr. Haddad received his B.A., cum laude, from Wesleyan University and his M.D. from New York University School of Medicine. He trained in general surgery and otolaryngology at Columbia-Presbyterian Medical Center, and completed a two-year NIH-sponsored fellowship in Pediatric Otolaryngology at Children's Hospital, University of Pittsburgh. He is the author of over 90 peer-reviewed articles, reviews and textbook chapters, and has been the principal investigator for several significant research projects, including his present research on the genetics of cleft lip and palate. He has served as a mentor in the Doris Duke Clinical Research Program for seven medical students. Dr. Haddad received the ASPO Research Grant Award in September, 2011, and a SENTAC research grant in 2012, for his project on "Identification of Genes Associated with Familial Non-syndromic Cleft lip and Palate". Current research includes further examination of the genetics of cleft lip and palate in Honduras and Colombia, as well as the role of folate metabolism in cleft patients.Read more
