Dr. Cohen III's bio

This content was provided by Dr. Cohen III "Endocrinologist Dr. Joseph Cohen believes in spending as much time as needed with each patient he sees. "I think it's very important to take the time necessary to listen to patients. By understanding what their cares and concerns are, I can better outline the best approach for them to succeed. My approach is to do whatever it takes to get each patient where they need to be. I strive to be their advocate for better health." As an endocrinologist, Dr. Cohen's goal is to keep patients with diabetes as healthy as possible. "Diabetes can cause many problems with the body, and increases the likelihood of many different complications. You have to establish a specific strategy with each patient that is appropriate for them, to minimize these complications and manage the disease," he explains. According to Dr. Cohen, new technology has made dealing with diabetes easier, but there is still a lot the patient must do to keep their blood sugar level within a safe range. "A major part of living with diabetes is being aware of your blood sugar level and overall condition, and taking an active part in your care. Even if you are wearing an insulin pump you need to be very knowledgeable about your condition so the device is working for your body the way it was intended." Dr. Cohen enjoys working with a wide range of patients at Reliant Medical Group and helping them improve their health. "The patients that I work and interact with here give me a great sense of satisfaction. It's mentally stimulating as well as very fulfilling to deal with endocrine problems each day and have a positive impact. I really enjoy my work here." When he is not busy helping his patients, Dr. Cohen enjoys being outdoors with his wife and family enjoying such activities as hiking, skiing, tennis, and geocaching – an outdoor treasure-hunting game. Like a lot of New Englanders, he is also a big fan of the Boston Red Sox."
