Dr. Carbone's Care Philosophy

First, each patient is a person who is unique and special. No patient should ever be thought of or referred to as "an interesting case" In examining a patient it is just as crucial to focus on strengths as well as signs and symptoms of illness as strengths can be built upon as part of the person's treatment. In addition, a patient must be examined within the context and richness of his or her life in all it's dimensions, including relationships, spirituality, work, stressors, and ways of coping with stress. An understanding of all these factors helps the physician to better understand the patient and as a result, to plan, together with the patient, as a team, the most effective treatment(s). As I see it, one of the most important goals of diagnosis and treatment is to help a person remove the obstacles that stand in the way of his or her being able to lead a rich, fulfilling life.

Dr. Carbone says...

Areas in which I have special interest and expertise include  neurodevelopmental disorders such as autism and schizophrenia as well as PTSD and TBI, mood disorders, memory disorders and substance use disorders as well as the psychiatric aspects of neurological and general medical disorders.

Dr. Carbone says...

I am a neurologist and board certified psychiatrist (American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology) and a board certified subspecialist in Behavioral Neurology and Neuropsychiatry (United Council of Neurologic Subspecialties).

When  I evaluate a patient with my comprehensive training and experience, I bring a very unique mindset to the examination, diagnostic and treatment processes. Therefore, there is a much higher likelihood of making the correct diagnosis as well as designing and implementing the most effective treatment plan

In addition to keeping up with the many Maintenance of Certification requirements for my Board Certifications, I also continue to stay current by maintaining academic appointments at the Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai and at New York Medical College.  I also teach medical students of Albert Einstein College of Medicine.

I was elected a Fellow of the American Psychiatric Association "in recognition of significant contributions to the field of Psychiatry".
