This content was provided by Dr. Salazar "Since receiving his MD at the University of Washington School of Medicine in Seattle, Dr. Salazar entered the General Surgery and Cardiothoracic Surgery Residency Program at Johns Hopkins Hospital in Baltimore. He subsequently spent a year in the Pediatric Cardiothoracic Fellowship Program at the University of California in San Francisco before joining the faculty at the University of Texas Health Sciences Center in San Antonio and subsequently at the Texas Children's Hospital in Houston. Jorge was then recruited to be the Chief of the Division of Pediatric and Congenital Heart Surgery at the University of Mississippi Medical Center in Jackson, and in 2013 became the Division Chief for both adult and pediatric cardiac surgery. Dr. Salazar is an accomplished investigator involved in numerous clinical trials evaluating novel therapies to treat complex congenital heart defects. In addition to his research activities, Dr. Salazar's clinical focus has been on complex reconstruction of left-sided lesions including aortic root, valve, and aortic arch. He has extensive experience in valve reconstruction as well as the management of patients with connective tissue disorders. In addition, Dr. Salazar has a strong interest in adult congenital cardiac surgery and greatly expanded the program at the University of Mississippi."
