Dr. Hopkins' bio

This content was provided by Dr. Hopkins "Dr. Hopkins was born and raised in Parma Heights, Ohio just outside of Cleveland. He attended the United States Coast Guard Academy on a full scholarship, where he played collegiate football and baseball. He eventually soured on the harsh winters of coastal Connecticut, however. Buckeye Nation called him back home, ultimately graduating With Honors from The Ohio State University in 1997, his degree in Microbiology with a minor in English Literature. He stayed on in Columbus, attending OSU College of Medicine, then completing his Internship as well as his Residency in Internal Medicine at the OSU Medical Center in 2004. He joined the OSU faculty for a year, teaching medical students and training new doctors as an Associate Professor of Medicine in 2004 and 2005. His true passion was the study of Cardiovascular Medicine. He finally left Columbus Ohio and, after interviewing at many of the most prestigious institutions across the country, decided to take the next step of his training at the University of Florida in Gainesville where he started his fellowship in the study of Cardiovascular Medicine in 2005. Little did he know, within 12 months of arriving in Gainesville, the Gators would battle his beloved Buckeyes for a championship in both football and basketball, with the Gators coming out victorious both times. Somehow, in spite of this affront to his home town fandom, he continued his studies at the University of Florida, completing his Advanced Subspecialty Fellowship in Interventional Cardiology in 2009. Fresh out of Fellowship, he joined a successful practice in Tampa, Florida where he quickly distinguished himself for not only his state of the art training and technical skill in the cardiac cath lab, but also for his caring bedside manner. He joined the faculty at the University of South Florida in 2012, helping to train the next generation of Cardiology Fellows in South Florida. When Florida Hospital Tampa began offering the breakthrough technology of minimally invasive heart valve implants, over 30 area Interventional Cardiologists competed for the honor of joining this prestigious multi-disciplinary team. Based on his skill, outcomes data, and the respect of his peers (and despite being the youngest cardiologist of the group), he was one of 3 cardiologists afforded this honor. He stayed on to become the core interventional cardiologist on this multi-disciplinary Structural Heart Team for the final 2 years of his tenure in Tampa. During this time, Dr. Hopkins married the love of his life, Sharon, and they began building a family. As their family grew, they decided to make a change. They left the busy city of Tampa in search of a more family friendly environment. After having been recruited to join LWR Cardiology, they fell in love with the Sarasota/Bradendton/LWR area. In his desire to offer state of the art Cardiovascular care while remaining highly accessible and responsive to the needs of his patients, Dr. Hopkins opened his own practice in January, 2018. As the founder of Hopkins Cardiovascular Associates, he is confident he can offer state of the art medical care while at the same time treating his patients like a member of the family."

Dr. Hopkins was my cardiologist for approximately two years, and still would be had he remained in the Tampa area. I found him easy to talk with, and one who gave me the opportunity to agree or disagree. I was sorry to lose Dr. Hopkins as my doctor. He had my full confidence, and I would rate...more
