Dr. Jacobs graduated from Columbia University in New York in 1989 with a bachelor's degree in Latin American studies and history. He attended the Mayo Medical School at the Mayo Clinic in Rochester, Minn., where he received his doctorate of medicine in 1995. He completed his residencies in internal medicine and pediatrics in 1999 at the Cleveland Clinic, where he was also designated as chief resident in 1999. Dr. Jacobs is board-certified in internal medicine and pediatrics/adolescent medicine and a fellow of the American College of Physicians and the American Academy of Pediatrics. In 2005, Dr. Jacobs created a clinic in the Kansas City area designated to treat evacuees from Hurricane Katrina and saw nearly 1,000 patients for which he was awarded the ACP Humanitarian Award for 2005. He has also been named a "Kansas City SuperDoctor."' Dr. Jacobs has been a volunteer physician for Cabot and Turner Clinics and vice president and co-founder of Doctors Outreach Clinics, an international health development nonprofit organization. Dr. Jacobs and his wife live in Overland Park, Kan., and are raising four children.
