I had been a patient of Dr. Markman for many years. We had a treatment plan in place. However, when the Worker’s Compensation law changed, they no longer stood behind their own treatment plan and were incredibly dismissive, rude, and unhelpful in finding any alternatives.

I cannot recommend this doctor. He was in and out of my exam room several times seeing other patients. He did not pay attention while doing his patient interview or exam. He refused to look at imaging. All he seemed interested in was disrespectfully arguing, and in putting down other highly-qualified doctors' diagnoses. He had no helpful information or suggestions. He acted all jittery and speedy. I left the appointment very disappointed and upset. He then wrote a very condescending note to my primary care provider, confirming my belief that he was not interested in my health.

John Markman is a very caring person. Although very busy, he alway seems to take time to talk with the patient. He has been very successful in controlling my lower back pain over the past few years. Only problem is if i have a flare up of back pain it is very difficult getting in to see him in a timely manner, some time couple months.

If you are in recovery from alcohol or drugs don't bother seeing these people. They will judge you horrifically and not help you in any way except to make you feel like you are dirty and scum of the earth. I have arachnoiditis after 7 spine surgeries and as soon as they hear I had over 20 YEARS in the program I was suddenly the scum of the earth. I wasn't even asking for "pain meds" I was asking for help.

Good person no matter what they say in , NY – Jul 31, 2017
BEWARE!!! Please guys don"t bother seeing him, his license should be barred, I will be reporting to NY state, I have been suffering from chronic pain in my spine after a dozen surgeries and he had the nerves to tell me my pain is in my head and I should see a psychiatrist. I understand chronic pain causes depression but treating my pain as nothing really hurts. He is rude and has no bed side manners.

Dr. Markman and the treatment he provides has given me my life back. Prior to his treatments I had pain almost every day and felt like I was just an observer in my own life. I was tired always fighting the pain. Since the treatments I have few headaches and the pain on my right side of my face is bearable 90% of the time. I am able to enjoy life again.

If it wasn't for Dr. Markman my quality of life would not be what it is today. Doctor Markman seems to have made an accurate diagnosis of my condition. He and I have put together an effective approach that seems to be minimizing the pain I originally came to him with. It is great for me to be able to stand in one place for more than 5 minutes and not be in pain. I have and will continue to recommend him. Bonnie Nash Farmington

I would recommend Dr. Markman without hesitation. I recently moved to the Rochester area and needed to transfer care from a Pain Center elsewhere. He is extremely knowledgeable and is willing to explain things in a way that's understandable to the average individual. He identified my rare condition after my searching for more than 3 years and seeing several doctors/specialists.

I have had nerve pain in my back since 2002, when I lumbar fusion. I arrived in Rochester in July 2014 and sought a pain specialist. Dr. Markman was not available for 2 months. His partner, who is an anesthesiologist, was available immediately. I suffered for 15 months of his inept care and made another appointment with Dr. Markman. He never bother to look at the surgery notes. He told me that he wanted to open my back and put electrodes on my spine. That was the end. No discussion.

Dr. Markman and his entire staff were timely, efficient, friendly and truly professional. Both the experience of my initial consultation as well as my actual procedure was outstanding. All of his explanations were put into terms that were easy to understand and his willingness to answer questions and discuss options was more than you could have expected.

Dr. Markman is the rare combination of erudite and earnest. After years of unceasing back pain, I met with Dr. Markman at his U of R Strong Memorial Hospital practice. He listened intently and compassionately, and then discerned the problem. He scheduled treatment (Botox injections) and for the first time in nearly half a decade, I had relief. I cannot speak more highly of his professional acumen or his bedside manner: he is a case study in excellence.

I was fortunate to find Dr. Markman, whose patient I have been for more than 3 years. His kindness, consideration, willingness to listen, and skill have earned my complete confidence. I am more than willing to drive 5 hours round trip every three months to see him, for there are not many people that I would trust with a needle around my spine. His nurses are superb, and they work with him as a caring, careful and efficient unit. Office staff is excellent, as well.
