Dr Markman has been my pain management Dr for over 2 years now, he's the type of Dr that always has time for his patients. He's never in a rush and always takes time to explain why!
in macedon, ny |
John Markman is a very caring person. Although very busy, he alway seems to take time to talk with the patient. He has been very successful in controlling my lower back pain over the past few years. Only problem is if i have a flare up of back pain it is very difficult getting in to see him in a timely manner, some time couple months.

If you are in recovery from alcohol or drugs don't bother seeing these people. They will judge you horrifically and not help you in any way except to make you feel like you are dirty and scum of the earth. I have arachnoiditis after 7 spine surgeries and as soon as they hear I had over 20 YEARS in the program I was suddenly the scum of the earth. I wasn't even asking for "pain meds" I was asking for help.
in Rochester, NY |
BEWARE!!! Please guys don"t bother seeing him, his license should be barred, I will be reporting to NY state, I have been suffering from chronic pain in my spine after a dozen surgeries and he had the nerves to tell me my pain is in my head and I should see a psychiatrist. I understand chronic pain causes depression but treating my pain as nothing really hurts. He is rude and has no bed side manners.
in rochester, ny |
Dr. Markman and the treatment he provides has given me my life back. Prior to his treatments I had pain almost every day and felt like I was just an observer in my own life. I was tired always fighting the pain. Since the treatments I have few headaches and the pain on my right side of my face is bearable 90% of the time. I am able to enjoy life again.
in farmington |
If it wasn't for Dr. Markman my quality of life would not be what it is today. Doctor Markman seems to have made an accurate diagnosis of my condition. He and I have put together an effective approach that seems to be minimizing the pain I originally came to him with. It is great for me to be able to stand in one place for more than 5 minutes and not be in pain. I have and will continue to recommend him. Bonnie Nash Farmington

Excellent provider, takes all the time you need and throughly explains conditions and options.
in Fairport, NY |
I would recommend Dr. Markman without hesitation. I recently moved to the Rochester area and needed to transfer care from a Pain Center elsewhere. He is extremely knowledgeable and is willing to explain things in a way that's understandable to the average individual. He identified my rare condition after my searching for more than 3 years and seeing several doctors/specialists.
Rochester, NY |
I have had nerve pain in my back since 2002, when I lumbar fusion. I arrived in Rochester in July 2014 and sought a pain specialist. Dr. Markman was not available for 2 months. His partner, who is an anesthesiologist, was available immediately. I suffered for 15 months of his inept care and made another appointment with Dr. Markman. He never bother to look at the surgery notes. He told me that he wanted to open my back and put electrodes on my spine. That was the end. No discussion.
in Penfield NY |
My only negative with Dr. M is that he tends to downplay discomfort/pain after procedure.
in Penfield, ny |
Dr. Markman and his entire staff were timely, efficient, friendly and truly professional. Both the experience of my initial consultation as well as my actual procedure was outstanding. All of his explanations were put into terms that were easy to understand and his willingness to answer questions and discuss options was more than you could have expected.

The absolute best in the business! Highly recommend.
in rochester, ny |
Dr. Markman has been my doctor for more than ten years. He has helped me manage my pain. His expertise, kindness and patience has been outstanding. He listens to my concerns. I am very confident that he would benefit other patients and that is the reason I have chosen him as my doctor.
Rochester, NY |
Dr. Markman is the rare combination of erudite and earnest. After years of unceasing back pain, I met with Dr. Markman at his U of R Strong Memorial Hospital practice. He listened intently and compassionately, and then discerned the problem. He scheduled treatment (Botox injections) and for the first time in nearly half a decade, I had relief. I cannot speak more highly of his professional acumen or his bedside manner: he is a case study in excellence.
in rochester, ny |
( have been most pleased with all aspects of the treatment provided by Dr. Markman and his office staff and assistants.
binghamton, ny |
I was fortunate to find Dr. Markman, whose patient I have been for more than 3 years. His kindness, consideration, willingness to listen, and skill have earned my complete confidence. I am more than willing to drive 5 hours round trip every three months to see him, for there are not many people that I would trust with a needle around my spine. His nurses are superb, and they work with him as a caring, careful and efficient unit. Office staff is excellent, as well.
in rochester, ny |
My experience with Dr. Markman over the past year has been the best! He is a master in his field, personable and a great listener. I trust him completely! I have and will continue to recommend him indefinitely.

I love DR. Markman he really listens when you talk to him he"s never in a rush when he is with you the look on his face tells you he really hears what you are saying. That means a lot to any patient .
Fulton, NY |
Excellent doctor.
in rush, ny |
The support staff is Top- notch, Julie Kathy, Jean, all work so well together, like a machine with many parts and gears, they are knowlegdable, attentive and really care about the patient's well-being. Dr. Markman's manner is kind, apologetic as he moves the needle to administer the pain medicine into your spinal column. After the 2nd epidural the sensistivity on my right leg, the skin from my knee to hip was super sensitive to clothing and touch for 3+ years. Now it's fine, normal

I have had nothing but success under Dr. Markman's care. he takes the time to answer all of my questions and give good advice on maintaining good outcomes.
in Alfred Station, NY |
I have been a patient of Dr. Markman's for over 5 years. His diagnosis and treatment of my lower back pain has been exceptional. In addition, Dr. Markman is a respected member of what I would consider a "top notch" neurology team consisting of physicians and assistance who cover a wide range of neurological areas.

Dr. Markman is easy to talk to. He explains Diagnosis clearly and at a level I can understand. I have a great confidence in him and would recommend him to anybody..............

Dr. Markman is very good at listening to your problems. My lower back L-3 and L-4 on the right side is my problem. He has giving injection into this area with great results. After the injection I am pain free for a couple of months. He is very patient friendly. I have the highest respect for him.

Dr. M. is brilliant, focused, extremely precise, a wonderful diagnostician, a great listener, and a humane, unself-important, and humorous man. I recommend--and have recommended--him unqualifiedly.
in Bloomfield, NY |
I've had chronic back pain & sciatica since 1991. I was looking for a Dr. who specialized in people like me and was refereed to Dr. Markman by my PCP. I have been a satisfied patience ever since. He listens to your concerns and develops a treatment plan based on your needs. He doesn't talk down to you or brush your comments off like some other Dr.'s tend to do. He recently performed a radio frequency ablation procedure on me with good results. I have referred many others to his care.
Rochester, NY |
Dr. Markman is a very understanding doctor for people in pain. Dr. Markman tries to determine what the best options are and works with a patient to determine the best course of action for dealing with their specific situation.
in Fairport, NY |
Simply speaking, Dr. Markman is the best! I met him during as appointment with my 93-year-old father-in-law and was so impressed that I now see him too. He has helped us tremendously with epidural injections that alleviated our sciatic pain. He is an exceptional practitioner and one of the friendliest, most optimistic doctors I know. He listens carefully, answers questions clearly, and treats you more like a friend than a patient. The whole staff is excellent as well and a pleasure to be around.

My second visit was doing my first proceedure. It was better than I could ever imagine. I left there thinking I might be abke to live with this pain now. The staff is great. The care is stellar. I told a couple of my friends about this release from pain and NO MEDICATIONS! ! ! I can function at a 5 or 6 without meds. Life is good. Thank yo Dr. Markman!

Dr. Markman was the third doctor I brought my mother to and the only one who was able to offer her relief from severe lower back pain.

Dr. Markman is a true professional physician. He is knowledgeable and is able to explain things in layman terms. During treatments he is very concerned with your comfort and his treatment room staff are wonderful. I am very glad I have found Dr. Markman as he has really helped with my pain problems. He diagnosed my illness and provided treatment options that have worked really well.
rural, NY |
I began seeing Dr. Markman about 10 years ago for a constant earache as a result of two surgeries for bonespurs in my ear canal. Informally known as surfers' ear. We started out with drugs, but my ear was slowly getting worse and life was getting more difficult. About two years ago, he asked me if I was ready to try a nerve block. It had been a long wait. So finally I had the block, it took my pain levels back ten years. My opioid use is down 75%. The pain is far from gone, but It is better.
in Canandaigua, NY |
Dr. Markman work tirelessly to find a solution to my problem. He is courteous, kind and though an extremely busy physician, he takes the time to remember something personal to speak to each individual about, whether he truly wants to know or not. He is very engaged in patient care and satisfaction.
in Spencerport, NY |
Dr. Markman takes the time to review X-rays and options available to ease my pain. He explains options going forward and is concerned with how I am doing.
rochester, ny |
He is very patient and he thorough explains what the situation is and how to treat it.
in Fairport, New York |
Dr. Markman is very prompt, and thorough. He listens, and works with me in determining my pain location and level. The procedure room is staffed by exceptional nurses, and the prep room nurses and techs are top notch. Dr. Markman is a no nonsense physician in whom I have the utmost confidence.
in rochester, ny |
I spent the last half of my thirties with chronic pain and other symptoms which caused me to experience bouts of depression and so many questions as to what was wrong with me. Dr. Markman (as well as Shirley Rast) was able to alleviate said pain. The diagnosis was thorough and was explained to me in great detail, yet in an understandable way. Dr. Markman has a great personality and makes one feel very comfortable. I have a strong aversion to needles, but I was relaxed with him.
in Toronto, ON |
Simply put, Dr. Markman is the best doctor I have ever met. Not just the best pain specialist, the best doctor. My mother, who is paralyzed due to a motor vehicle accident, sees Dr. Markman for neuropathic pain. He is kind, empathetic, and highly knowledgeable. He is realistic about potential treatment benefits and answers all questions with patience. He has helped my mother enormously. I would recommend Dr. Markman to anyone without reservation, there is no one better.
in Clifton Springs, NY |
I have been seeing Dr. Markman for years now. I started out with a rough case one that they thought would not work with pain management but after he researched and studied on it I'm so pleased to say that it is helping and I am able to actively live my life without pain. He treats you like family and not just a patient. I refer him every chance I can. Thank you so much Dr. Markman for all you do.
in Auburn, NY |
I was referred to Dr. John Markman by Neurosurgeon, Dr. Webster Pilcher. Following this referral, I cannot say enough about the positive results I have experienced under the care of Dr. Markman and the staff of the Neuromedicine Pain Management Center URMC Neurosurgery. Dr. Markman is professional at all times, but has the best bedside manner I have ever experienced. His staff is also skilled, but warm and caring. Lastly, Dr. Markman listens to my problems and then suggests remedies.
Atlanta, GA |
Perfect in every way
I was his patient for 6 months. In that time I met Dr. Markman once for 10 seconds. His NP refused to offer any treatments other than pouring medications down my throat. This doctor and his NP clearly did not care to treat me so I found a doctor who does care about me as a patient.
