Oncology | Male | 53 years old

My thoracic surgical practice and volunteer efforts are focused on patients suffering from diseases of the chest. A major focus of my practice is the early detection and minimally invasive treatment of lung cancer. I have been involved with lung cancer screening efforts since 1999 and have been performing minimally invasive (VATS) lobectomy for over a decade. Serving as the President of the Board of Trustees of the CHEST Foundation has provided a platform for a broader impact on Patient education about lung cancer and other chest diseases. Our thoracic surgical practice is focused on patient outcomes and experience. We strive to minimize the pain and discomfort of thoracic diseases and the surgery needed to treat that disease. We pride ourselves on having high patient satisfaction scores from independent surveys. Our practice strives for continuous quality improvement and actively participates in national and regional clinical trials in order to advance the fields of Thoracic surgery and Thoracic oncology. We have been consecutively recognized over the last 10 years as Top Doctors for Cancer and Best Doctors in America. Read more

Procedures Performed

Dr. Howington says..

The overwhelming majority of my thoracic surgical practice is done with a minimally invasive approach. I have over 12 years experience with minimally invasive (VATS) lobectomy for lung cancer. Our teams have published on the successful training of surgeons in the technique of minimally invasive lobectomy and the many advantages of minimally invasive (VATS) lobectomy over an open thoracotomy and lobectomy.

We have developed a safe and reliable minimally invasive surgical approach to esophageal cancer.
