Dr. Downing's Care Philosophy

As an ophthalmologist, I strive to provide caring, state of the art eye services. We try very hard to maintain a schedule to minimize your waiting time. Sitting in a doctor's waiting room for more than a few minutes is a waste of your time, and from experience, I know it becomes frustrating very quickly. I specialize in cataract surgery, including laser assisted cataract surgery, treat conditions such as glaucoma and diabetic problems, and provide general eye care.

Dr. Downing says...

I do comprehensive general ophthalmology, from measuring for glasses or contact lenses to treating diseases such as glaucoma and diabetic eye problems,  refractive laser surgery  to surgery for cataract. We offer a full range of options for correcting your vision to help you see the best you can.

Dr. Downing says...

My major interest is treating cataracts, which develop in all of us if we live long enough. They usually start with blurring of near vision or glare and usually develop over several years before they interfere significantly with your vision. I will not recommend surgery unless you are having significant problems with your vision, such as glare at night or driving into the sun, or significant blurring of your vision. If you do need cataract surgery, I will find out what your visual needs are and recommend the best solution for you, aiming to give you the best functional vision over the broadest range of distances. Usually, we can now make most people glasses free at least for many tasks. I offer premium intraocular lenses which correct astigmatism or aging vision (presbyopia) if you are a good candidate and wish to be as free of glasses as much as possible.
