Bio and Interests Dr. Clayton is a native of Utah and a third generation plastic surgeon. His grandfather, also named John L. Clayton, started Clayton Plastic Surgery and was later joined by his two sons, Dr. John N. Clayton and Dr. David N. Clayton, who now practice at Alta View Plastic Surgery Specialists. Dr. Clayton earned his Doctor of Philosophy in Epidemiology before attending medical school. He then completed a general surgery residency at the David Geffen School of Medicine at UCLA in Los Angeles, California, and is currently certified by the American Board of Surgery. Dr. Clayton completed his plastic and reconstructive surgery training at the University of North Carolina Hospitals in Chapel Hill. He has been actively involved in research during all aspects of his training, including more recent research in breast cancer and breast reconstruction. He has 21 peer-reviewed publications and has given over 50 presentations. Dr. Clayton currently serves on the editorial board of the Annals of Plastic Surgery. He and his wife Heidi are the parents of three children, and are happy to call Utah home. Practice Focus My practice covers the entire spectrum of plastic and reconstructive surgery including hand surgery, the treatment for skin cancers and pediatric conditions. I have extensive training in breast reconstruction, enabling comprehensive surgical care for women interested in either immediate or delayed reconstruction.
