Dr. Austin's bio

This content was provided by Dr. Austin "Dr. Austin has been practicing as an ear, nose and throat physician since 1995, coming to the Valley from the University of Texas and M. D. Anderson Cancer Center in Houston. Dr. Austin was the first ENT physician in Austin to be certified by the American Board of Facial Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery in 1997. Dr. Austin is also board certified in Otolaryngology. Otolaryngologists, or ENT specialists, are defined by the American Academy of Otolaryngology as "physicians trained in the medical and surgical management of patients with diseases and disorders of the ear, nose and throat (ENT), and related structures of the head and neck." Dr. Austin provides treatments for a variety of ENT disorders. A few of the ear problems treated are acute and chronic ear infections, wax buildup, congenital deformities, ear tubes, vertigo, tinnitus and skin cancers. Problems of the nose that Dr. Austin treats include sinusitis, nasal obstructions, nasal allergies, and cosmetic nasal surgery (rhinoplasty). Dr. Austin also works with patients that have throat disorders such as recurrent sore throats, hoarseness, swallowing problems, vocal nodules, tumors of the voice box and throat cancer. In addition to all of the ENT services Dr. Austin provides, he also helps patients who suffer from sleep disorders like sleep apnea, snoring and upper airway obstruction. Dr. Austin also performs head and neck surgeries for patients with thyroid or parathyroid tumors, tumors of the salivary glands, skin tumors or tumors of the mouth and voice box. Dr. Austin has served as an ear, nose and throat doctor for nearly 20 years. Contact one of his two convenient office locations in Brownsville or Harlingen, and have your ENT needs met with the highest quality care."

Care Philosophy

This content was provided by Dr. Austin "I feel lucky to have been able to practice as an ENT physician for more than 20 years and am very proud of the care I've provided to thousands of Texans of all ages.

To me, experience is one of the most important characteristics in the make-up of a doctor. By listening to a patient's symptoms, providing a thorough examination and obtaining the appropriate test, a physician can make a life-changing contribution to their patient's health.

One of the things I like best about my specialty is treating a wide range of patients -- male and female, young and old. I treat children with problems as common as sore throats, repetitive ear infections, and tonsillitis, while on the other end of the spectrum, I treat adults with complex cancers, thyroid tumors and hearing loss.

I love getting to know my patients and treating their families through each cycle of life.

-Dr. John Austin"

Dr. Austin is a perfect example of professionalism, I am very pleased of the results from my son's surgery. The ability interacting with my son making him feel not to worry or scared of the process was definitely a plus. Even my son has rated Dr. Austin a 5 Star doctor.

I saw Dr. Austin about sinus congestion. After a scan, he recommended a balloon sinuplasty. The procedure WAS unpleasant, but worth it. I had this procedure 2 weeks ago and I can breathe!!!! Dr. Austin is very attentive and has a good bedside manner!
