Dr. Hunter's bio

This content was provided by Dr. Hunter "About Dr. Joel Hunter | By Shawn Romano ------------- LASIK and cataract surgery are two of the highest volume procedures performed in the United States. Each year, nearly half a million people undergo LASIK with the goal of gaining freedom from glasses and contacts. With lens and surgical technology more recently, hundreds of thousands of cataract patients are able to opt for Refractive Cataract Surgery to provide near and distance vision without glasses or contacts for the rest of their lives. There are a few thousand ophthalmologists in the country who perform these procedures regularly and like any profession, there are a few who who sit head and shoulders above the rest. Successful refractive surgery is generally measured by post-operative vision testing on an office eye chart. With today's technology, most refractive surgeons can get respectable results for their patients. Most patients are pleased to just not need glasses. The best surgeons are only satisfied when patients maximize the quality of their vision. Dr. Hunter built his LASIK and Refractive Cataract practice on that single idea. His goal is measured in microns of perfection, not "acceptable ranges for the result of Refractive Surgery". Part art, part science, part psychology and part magic; the best refractive surgeons know how to perform a procedure and how to craft the procedure for an outcome specifically targeted to the visual requirement of each patient. They target a custom result with steady hands while doing silent physics calculations and comforting each patient as they guide them from visually impaired to visually free in mere minutes. The best of the best surgeons perform miracles each and every time because they know the patient is the one that matters. Starting Hunter Vision as the youngest Refractive Surgeon in the United States, Dr. Hunter knew that his knowledge, surgical skill, and patient care would need to be perfect in order to convince patients to allow a 28 year old surgeon to operate on their eyes. He needed every bit of that perfection to start a solo elective surgery practice from the ground up, in the middle of the Great Recession. Inside of 5 years Hunter Vision joined the ranks of the highest volume LASIK practices in the country (not counting the scores of all of the other vision correction procedures performed). His team of 40 cures vision and cares for thousands of patient eyes each year. Dr. Barrett Eubanks joined a few years back (after a year long fellowship under Dr. Hunter) to help with the explosive growth and to make sure that Hunter Vision could still provide world class care for every LASIK, Refractive Cataract, ICL (Implantable Collamer Lens) and RLE (Refractive Lens Exchange) patient. Patients (including other surgeons) come from all parts of the world to have Dr. Hunter perform their procedure at Hunter Vision. As he likes to say, "Not every 20/20 is created equal"and it's clear that his bar set for perfection is beyond what anyone would require. He's part artist, part scientist, part physicist, part friend to all. In an era when doctors are trying to spend less time with each patient to be able to see more, he sees every patient at every consult and takes the time to guide them to a new chapter in their story. You'll never find him bragging about his other-worldly knowledge and skills, but you'll often hear him talking about how excited he is to "help that patient with cerebral palsy never have to ask for help to put in contacts again" or "let that dad wrestle with his kids without his glasses getting ripped off his face." He quietly (except for when he's singing in the OR) uses his knowledge and skills for the benefit of others. Dr. Hunter knows what it takes to be a great surgeon and he wants to make sure the person you trust with your vision is dedicated to perfection on your behalf."
