Dr. Hardin is a graduate of the University of Tennessee College of Medicine (1987). He subsequently completed pediatric residency (2000) and pediatric cardiology fellowship (2003) at St. Louis Children's Hospital, Washington University School of Medicine. He is board-certified in adult congenital heart disease and pediatric cardiology. Dr. Hardin is a Fellow of the American Academy of Pediatrics, American College of Cardiology, and American Heart Association.
Dr. Hardin joined Pediatric Cardiology Associates in 2016 following service as Director of Pediatric Cardiology, Vice-Chair of Pediatric Administration, and Associate Professor Pediatrics and Medicine at Loyola University Stritch School of Medicine (Chicago, IL). Also while in Chicago, he held concurrent appointments to the faculty of Northwestern University Feinberg School of Medicine, the consulting cardiology staff of Ann & Robert H. Lurie Children's Hospital of Chicago, and the consulting cardiology staff of Advocate's Heart Institute & Children's Heart Institute. In 2012 he was elected inaugural President of the Chicago Adult Congenital Heart Network.
Dr. Hardin completed military service in 2006 at a rank of Commander in the U.S. Navy Medical Corps, Fleet Marine Forces. His active duty service included deployment to the Anbar Province of Iraq in 2004 as an infantry Battalion Surgeon assigned to 3rd Battalion, 24th Marine Regiment, 1st Marine Division (REIN) from Camp Pendleton, California. He was then reassigned to the role of Surgeon, Augmentation Command Element, 2nd Marine Expeditionary Force at Camp Lejeune, North Carolina.
Dr. Hardin's clinical interests center on promoting life-long care of adolescents and adults who have grown up with congenital heart disease, pregnancy in women with congenital heart disease, adults with pulmonary arterial hypertension secondary to congenital heart disease, and cardiovascular complications of Marfan syndrome and similar genetic conditions.
