Successful surgery.would highly recommend Dr Shen!
Post op 6 weeks.. Degenerative disc surgery..Endoscopic..original pain was gone upon waking from surgery..First couple weeks healing pain was not unbearable just uncomfortable.Office staff were amazing getting back to you with any questions or concerns ! Dr Shen called personally following surgery. Throughly explained procedure and anticipated outcome Prior to surgery! Would highly recommend! Got my mobility back pain free! Extremely grateful I found Dr Shen and his expertise to do ,y surgery.

BEST DOCTOR EVER
I would start by saying. Dr Shen is by far one of the best doctor I've seen so far. Him and his team are exceptional. They provided excellent care from before my surgery to after my surgery. They are very professional too and caring. I would have 10 more surgeries with him if needed. I seriously could not see myself seeing another orthopedic doctor going forward. I would Highly recommend him and his team.

Lumbar decompression
I am a practicing gastroenterologist for the last 24 years and I rarely write a review but I am glad to write a review for Dr. Shen. I have moderate to severe lumbar stenosis with neurogenic claudication of my feet. I did my search about lumbar stenosis and I visited two spine surgeons before I found Dr. Shen, I was looking for a surgeon who can do endoscopic procedure and preserve the bones of my sine. I mailed my MRI to Dr. Shen and we had a zoom meeting two days later and I scheduled the surgery within two weeks. I didn’t have any back pain after the surgery , I still have the numbness but it is getting better and my understanding it will take up to six weeks to go away. I felt very comfortable with Dr. Shen , he has a lot of expertise with endoscopic surgery, not too many spine surgeons were trained on minimally invasive procedures. I highly recommend Dr. Shen and I already referred two of my friends to him.

The very Best Surgeon when it comes to listening to patient's needs and addressing them surgically. Also, his bed-side manner that is unmatched in this field. Unmatched!! That goes with the entire office staff to Dr. Shen! I have never had a Dr. follow up after a surgery repeatedly days after himself and then again, a card, and then another follow up call weeks after the 1st post-surgery visit. Unreal care and individual concern! And my back has Zero issues less than 5 weeks post surgery. This EXCEEDS my expectations! Thank you Dr. Shen and all your AWESOME Staff!!

If Only the World had More Surgeons like Dr. Shen!
I can only say that Dr. Shen is a Godsend. I had been suffering a herniated disc in the cervical area for almost a year before being scheduled for a total disc replacement toward the end of December. I had become increasingly nervous about the procedure and worried about recovery time so I began researching on alternative surgical plans. That's when I found Dr. Shen, who is also an alumnus of my alma mater. I was able to meet with him on a very short notice and discuss my conditions. He told me not to worry and he would take care of me. He also pointed out that I wouldn't need a TDR. I took a leap of faith and canceled my original surgery. Dr. Shen found me a spot the night before Christmas Eve and the surgery went very well. I went home the very next day and have NOT taken any single pain medication since then, NOT EVEN the OTC NSAIDs!!! I thank GOD everyday for having found me Dr. Shen! I've recommended him to everyone in my community. We simply wish there were more Dr. Shen.

Awesome man!
I first met Dr Shen, he did surgery on my husband. He was so compassionate. Then it was my turn to have surgery. He explains everything he's going to do on my level. He and his staff keeps you posted and they check up on you after surgery to make sure everything is good. Couldn't ask for a better Dr or staff.

Superb results
Celebrating my 10 year anniversary of Minimally Invasive Spinal Fusion with Dr. Shen. I was in horrific debilitating pain affecting my daily activities at work and home. It was a very complex surgery but within 4 months of recovery I was able to run a 5K race…and since then I have completed several 5K races as well as a 15K race! I cannot thank Dr. Shen enough for his skill, expertise and bedside manner to achieve this monumental life changing goal.

Back Pain ? Dr. Jian Shen consultation is a must !
I was in a car accident in 1980. Had back problems ever since. 2001 herniated L4/5 disc, had surgery. 2013 re-herniated L4/5 disc. Dr. Jian Shen did surgery. 2022 herniated L3/4 and re-herniated L4/5 discs. Dr. Jian Shen did surgery again. It has been six weeks since my surgery and this is the best I have felt in 42 years concerning my back pain. Dr. Shen explained what procedure he would do and showed me on the MRI where my injury was. He answered all my questions and addressed my concerns. Dr. Shen had a calming effect on me , he is soft spoken and exudes a quiet confidence as well as being one of the most polite people I have ever met. By the time I left his office for consultation ( instead of being apprehensive about a third back surgery) my fear and concern of another surgery was alleviated.

After 7+ months of suffering with hip pain, Dr. Shen saw my MRIs and knew he could help me with back surgery. The endoscopic surgery was truly a miracle! Dr. Shen was very reassuring throughout the pre surgery and post surgery process. I highly recommend him for anyone that needs surgery!

I had a spinal fusion in 2019. Prior to going into surgery, I was walking with crutches because the pain down my leg was so severe. Leaving the hospital, I was walking without any pain! In a short amount of time I was back to full activity and resumed my same lifestyle prior to the surgery; working out, golfing and skiing. All pain free! Thank you Dr. Shen and staff.

L4-L5 fusion
Dr. Shen is an outstanding surgeon. He was able to identify my back problem immediately. Knew exactly what needed to be done. Surgery was performed flawlessly. I'm currently 8 months post surgery; feeling a lot better and on the right road to recovery. Dr. Shen is extremely confident and professional. I highly recommend him.

Life Saver!
Dr Shen and his office staff are like no other. I’m a single mom of 3 and I work at a gym. Local Dr to me told me I’d need to live on disability and needed dangerous surgeries. So glad I was referred to Dr. Shen. I walked out of the hospital pain free after disc regeneration surgery! He called to check on me personally! He cares about his patients. The St Mary’s hospital where I had surgery is also full of great people who genuinely care! So grateful!

Spinal Stenosis Surgery November 2022.

Neck Surgery

Great Experience
My experience with Dr. Shen was fantastic. I had been dealing with right sided sciatica symptoms for six months. As a practicing Physician Assistant and an active athlete I was very reluctant to undergo surgery. However after learning about Dr. Shen and endoscopic surgery in general I decided to meet with him, which was a commitment as he is 2 1/2 hours away from my home. After discussing my case I felt very at ease with our consult and decided to go forward with surgery given my worsening symptoms. I can't say enough about St. Mary's hospital and the OR staff, they were all fantastic. My recovery went well with only mild, less than I expected, postoperative pain. Dr. Shen and his office staff were very attentive and contacted me several times over the first two weeks to see how I was doing. I am happy to say it has now been eight weeks and I feel great. I would highly recommend Dr. Shen to anybody requiring spine surgery and look forward to referring my patients for quality care.

Just Excellent
I had surgery this past Spring with Dr. Shen for two herniated discs that were giving me extreme pain, including sciatic pain, and limited mobility. The surgery was an absolute success and my experience was really incredible. Everything was very thorough, efficient, and I felt I had the best experts in the room at St. Mary's Hospital during pre op and the surgery. The surgery was minimally invasive and I was up and walking around that afternoon, which really surprised me. The pain was gone right away--which I understand doesn't always happen, but what a relief that it did. When I was out of options for my pain and mobility, surgery was the answer and I'm really grateful and relieved it went so well. I would highly recommend Dr. Shen.

Unrivaled Quality!
I needed both cervical and lumbar surgery at multiple levels. BEFORE finding Shen Spine, I had put my surgeries off for 5 years due to my fear of complications and lack of trust in the competency ofbvb other spinal surgeons out there. Plus, I couldn't travel outside of New Jersey for multiple reasons. As soon as I read about Dr. Shen and his endoscopic technique, I felt all my fear dissipate. Dr. Shen is amazing as is the whole practice. Everyone is very kind and patient. He is very good at what he does. After two discectomy's that were not successful, I finally broke down and went to Dr. Shen. The best decision ever. My back pain is gone. The recovery is so much easier with the surgery being endoscopic. The office staff are very attentive and extremely compassionate. A Miracle Worker
I was diagnosed with cervical myelopathy and myomalacia when I was 35 years old. All the surgeons said I needed cervical spinal fusion of two or three levels. I wasn't going for it and was prepared to let myself deteriorate. The pain got so bad and I don't know where I got the thought one day to Google endoscopic spine surgery to see if anything like that existed and that is where I found Dr. Shen. I emailed him and he personally emailed me back the same night and got me in for an appointment the next day. Moment I met him I knew he was my guy. He explained the options to me and gave me an alternative to spinal fusion. He has an excellent bedside manner and is the kindest and most compassionate doctor of any kind I've ever known. He spent a lot of time with me. I booked my surgery and had a cervical endoscopic laminotomy, foraminotomy and facet joint augmentation 3 weeks later. Outpatient, only 3 weeks until full recovery. Thank you Dr. Shen for saving my life. God bless you.
