Quality of life is the most important goal of treating patients.
Dr. Jess David Collins MD attended Southern Methodist University in Dallas, TX where he graduated with a major in biological sciences, minor in chemistry and honors in the liberal arts. Wanting to put science to use helping others, he then attended Albany Medical Center where he completed his medical doctorate (MD). After a year of internal medicine training in St. Louis, he then attended a large neurology program at Emory University in Atlanta for his residency in adult neurology and fellowship in epilepsy/neurophysiology. After leaving the southeast, he returned to his childhood home near Kansas City where he built a regional epilepsy center. The Epilepsy Center at Menorah grew to a comprehensive program treating patients from multiple states. In addition, Dr. Collins obtained his board certification not only in neurology but also sleep medicine. Dr. Collins more recently returned to NY State treating patients both upstate in Albany and downstate in the New York City area before founding his own practice NY Epilepsy Medicine PC. Quality of life is the first consideration of Dr. Collins in the treatment of patients and their families. Although he specializes in all aspects of seizure disorders, he also treats general neurology of adults and children, sleep medicine (for which is he board certified), and offers high quality EEG services including routine and long term ambulatory video EEG. Dr. Collins also has extensive experience in Vagus Nerve Stimulation (VNS) therapy with several hundred patients he has programmed. In addition, Dr. Collins is using telemedicine to reach more patients in NY state who may have trouble with traveling to in person appointments or may have barriers to making visits to large academic epilepsy centers. Due to his extensive experience, Dr. Collins is also asked to lecture, engage in clinical research, and consult with various companies and nonprofits alike in the neruology community. Dr. Collins serves as a member of the professional advisory board of the Epilepsy Foundation of Northeastern New York. He is also the NY state medical director for Global Neurodiagnostics - an in home ambulatory video EEG service which is part of Natus incorporated.
