Takes time if you tell him what is going on
Counselors, psychologists, etc are the providers who spend hours in therapy with a patient. They can also discus meds and give you ideas of what to discuss with Dr. Chalfant. This has long been the way things go with psychiatry. An initial visit should take a long time, which mine did, but after that, it’s about what you tell him about what’s going on with you - especially after he picks a med with you, side effects, positive vs negative effects, etc. Psychiatrists pick the meds to make you feel better. Counseling helps the deeper problems. Not sure what folks expect. I feel many of his previous ratings are unfair. You should really judge for yourself.

WARNING: DO NOT SEE THIS PRACTITIONER. His bedside manner is atrocious, and he appears to have absolutely no interest in his clients' care aside from prescribing medication and sending them on their way. He does not and will not communicate with any therapists, and his office does not provide therapy in house. This is a huge issue because mental health care should be a team effort for each individual. So not only is care disjointed, but also because the only communication between psychiatrist and therapist is the patient, which can lead to miscommunication all around. He schedules appointments in 20 minute blocks, trying to get at least three clients in and out within an hour. It appears to me that the only thing he is interested is making a profit off his patients. Please, please go to someone else.

Very curt and non-helpful. Last phone visit I told him I was experiencing increased confusion. He just said I needed to see a psychologist and that was it. His office mailed a list of psychologists, but nothing else. I emphatically don’t recommend him

Dr Chalfant added a medication that helped. But I wonder if he is only interested in making money. I had a telephonic appointment due to the Covid pandemic. The office called two minutes ahead of time but I missed the call. I returned the call literally within 2 minutes and was told that I would have to reschedule as the doctor had moved on to the next client. At the next appointment I addressed the issue with the doctor and he told me that he wasn't going to discuss it with me and that I could find another doctor if I didn't like it. I think this is unreasonable and shows a lack of respect. Be prepared because they routinely call ahead of the scheduled appointment time and they will move on if you don't answer when they call.

HORRIBLE!!!! Do not see this doctor under any circumstance. He will make matters worse. When I needed help, he let me down. Let my meds expire and would not offer a refill even though the med documentation says "Do not quit cold turkey." Does even follow the standard procedures required of a doctor. At my appointments he was constantly looking at his watch instead of trying to help me.

I've seen this doctor a few times. He asked maybe one question and then wrote me a prescription. I told him I felt suicidal and he did not react and just said okay, well try this medication. I don't feel he took me seriously, he didn't look into my medical history, and he did not ask questions. He seems like someone who cares very little about his patients and is just phoning it in. I gave him the benefit of the doubt and saw him a few times, but each time he rushed me through the appointment and did nothing to help me. Psychiatric patients deserve better care than this. If you already know what med you want and it will never change, this doc can write your scripts for you, but if you are having serious problems and need help, keep looking.

Very dry personality, does not talk much. Be prepared to do all the talking yourself. Does not like to prescribe multiple medications at a time, we had to be really stern about getting an anti-depressant and an anti-psychiatic. Once he saw the benefits in behavior and mood he agreed to keep the combination. Time spent in the office with him is under 7 minutes per session.

My husband has been going to psychiatrists for years, now it has came down to he just needs to go back for his regular medication every few months thanks to the past doctors who worked with him and figured out what's best for him. Sadly he's previous doc moved away we need to find a new one. He knows what psychiatrists do, how they usually do things. So when he came back and told me this doc kinda of suck, it's a big deal. He rarely chat cos he knows that's more psychologist's job, but when Dr.

My wife saw Dr. Chalfant for three sessions. From the start of the first session, to the end of the third and final session, he showed absolutely no emotion or empathy. At this last session, my wife was crying and asking for help and he just said he can't help her and she needs a different doctor because he won't see her anymore. This is after he already knows she is suicidal....great job doc....NOT!!! He does not like being challenged and seems more concerned with how long you are in there wast

1) Refers you to outside source for diagnosis. 2) Uses outdated DSM to understand said diagnosis. 3) Spends no more than 5 min with patients. Glorified scriptwriter.

Dr. Chalfant has helped me maintain my stability and tweaks my meds as needed. I am a long time psych patient with lots of STL hospital stays. I feel he does really listen to me and cares. Dr. Chalfant offers to change meds if he thinks it could help ,but believes if it ain't broke don't fix it. I am a satisfied patient and after some time feel I have a good therapeutic relationship with Dr. Chalfant.

No chance of referring anyone. It took almost 5 months to get into the doctor. When I did he said he was going to increase my RX. I was on 60 mg prescribed by my general practitioner. Dr Chalfant stated he was going to increase my dosage amount. For almost a month I took the new dosage (but felt a little off). I just discovered instead of increasing the dosage he accidentally cut the dosage in half. This was my first and last visit. Sloppy

I had to switch to Dr. Chalfant as my previous doctor retired and the PA decided not to honor her diagnosis for myself. I let Dr. Chalfant know about this and he immediately started me on my previous treatment path and it has been a true blessing. I really appreciate how he handles cases like mine. I need minimal supervision and a simple check in on my medication levels and he provided me with all of that and more. His staff is very friendly and personable and very supportive.
