Boston, MA |
I believe Dr. Coumans is an extraordinary man. However, I had a pars defect in L5-S1 that was preventing me from playing sports and standing for more than ten minutes at a time. After acupuncture, PT two epidural shots and rest, I decided to go for the surgery. It has turned out to be the worst decision of my life. I am now in constant pain. The surgeons don't feel confident revising the surgery. I'm 41 and have been passed to pain management. I worry for my future. Consider the risks carefully.

I had broken the pars off my bottom vertebrate many years ago and the spine had slid forward on the L5-S1 joint. He said I could wait as long as I wanted but I would eventually need a fusion. It was a clear case for it. He did the surgery. I woke up and the pain in my hips was gone. It has been three years now. I am playing my sports, riding my bicycles, snowboarding and riding my motorcycles again! Dr. Coumans is amazing. I felt very comfortable going through this huge operation with him

Dr. Coumans is a very special individual that performed a double laminectomy and double discectomy on me this past December. He is not only a great surgeon but goes out of his way to make you feel comfortable and spends as much time as you need to explain the procedures. I am already back to playing golf, working out and doing almost everything I was able to do before the problems started.

I have been treating with Dr Coumans for roughly 11 years. His measure of commitment and professionalism has been beyond expectation, and he communicates your condition, and prospective avenues of care, with clarity and patience. I've experienced a significant degree of relief with each procedure I've had. I'm reminded every day of how I'm still able to work each day by virtue of the sacrifices of people like this. Being of measured means I don't know how to be more thankful.

Operated several times on me and did a spinal fusion. Excellent surgeon, Talented, compassionate physician who really got me back in sports when I never thought I would. Just a very , very fine, intelligent physician and person!

Dr.Jean-Valery Coumans did my 5 hour back surgery several years ago and I highly recommended him! He fused three discs together and placed two rods in my back. I was throwing my back out every other day and finally gave in. It was the best thing I've ever done! He is very smart and easy to talk to. My uncle had him do his back surgery and recommended me to see him.
