Jason F. Hall, MD, MPH, FACS, FASCRS, has been appointed chief of colon and rectal surgery and co-director of the Dempsey Center for Digestive Disorders at Boston Medical Center (BMC) and associate professor of surgery at Boston University School of Medicine (BUSM). Hall comes to BMC/BUSM from Lahey Hospital & Medical Center and Tufts University School of Medicine. "Dr. Hall is an accomplished surgeon whose expertise in colon and rectal surgery will greatly benefit our medical campus community," said Gerard Doherty, MD, surgeon-in-chief at BMC and chairman of the department of surgery at BUSM. "His experience treating colorectal cancer, Crohn's disease, ulcerative colitis, and other gastrointestinal disorders, coupled with his academic and research pursuits, demonstrate his commitment to both his patients and students." Hall earned a bachelor's degree from the College of the Holy Cross, his medical degree from Harvard Medical School, and a master's of public health from Harvard School of Public Health. He completed his residency in general surgery at Massachusetts General Hospital, where he served as the Churchill Instructor in Surgery (Super-Chief), and completed a two-year fellowship at Lahey Hospital & Medical Center focusing on colon and rectal surgery. Hall's research interests include colorectal cancer, diverticulitis and fistulas, with several of his studies appearing in national academic journals. Hall is board certified by the American Board of Surgery and the American Board of Colon and Rectal Surgery and received fellowships from the American College of Surgeons and the American Society of Colon and Rectal Surgery (ASCRS). Since 2009, Hall has had an active role in the ASCRS, most recently as the chair of the awards committee.
