Dr. Comer is my new hematologist/oncologist doctor for the Seattle Cancer Care Alliance at Overlake Cancer Center. As one who lives east of Seattle, I looked forward to transferring my care to SCCA at Overlake in Bellevue when the partnership was established as of July 1, 2020. Dr. Comer was highly recommended by my former oncologist who practiced at a different location for SCCA in Seattle. During my first visit with Dr. Comer, I felt that he understood the characteristics of my condition (Waldenstrom's Macroglobulinemia), that he was knowledgeable of my prior history and results of testing that confirmed my condition, and he established a plan for continued assessment of the progression of my condition and discussed options for future treatment when it would become necessary. I was most impressed that he had studied my most recent blood test results and left a brief comment to let me know how he interpreted the overall results. I look forward to continuing under his care.

My wife experienced multiple myloma and non-hodgkins lymphoma, and for some reason picked this doctor. For reasons I don't understand, she believed he was competent. The first run at chemotherapy quickly put her back in the ER and some days in the hospital, to deal with the negative outcomes of the chemotherapy. I understood that she wanted the next treatment to continue as scheduled, but on a decreased dosage. I may be mistaken. My children tell me that was not the case. The next chemotherapy session was, I believe, not at a reduced dosage. The result was a more voracious reaction, and her death. While I might be wrong, I believe he failed her. Please do not trust this man. If you do choose him, I urge you get his treatment plan IN WRITTING, in a form you can understand, and get confirmation from the administering persons that what you get is what he specified in his writing to you. He may have done the right thing, and got a bad outcome. However, his response was uncaring, cold.

Dr Comer takes plenty of time to listen, explain options and provide current research and data to help one make decisions. The way he works with our primary care doc and ortho surgeon makes proceeding with joint replacements possible when PE's delayed them. His willingness to include our junior pre-med student in the original consult and how he used the teachable moment was impressive. It is easy to understand why our primary doc wanted us to have Dr. Comer as a member of our care team.
