This content was provided by Dr. Duncan "It is often repeated during training for any pediatric field (general pediatrics, pediatric ENT, pediatric ophthalmology, etc.) that "children are not small adults." I try to keep this in mind every time I see new children. To me, a child's visit to the eye doctor isn't about scary doctor stuff. It's about having fun and getting the appropriate treatment without the scary whitecoat mentality. The best compliment I can receive is when I hear parents and children say they are excited to go and see the eye doctor. My goal for every patient encounter is to make the child comfortable enough to walk through our front door on subsequent visits without any trepidation. It's also important to remember the other patients in the room - the parents. Pediatric eyecare necessitates a team approach with the parents at the helm. No visit is complete until everyone is satisfied with the approach moving forward."
