I chose the field of medicine because I really had a role model that was my physician growing up. I felt that he made a difference in people's lives in the community that I lived in and was very special to my family and wanted to emulate him and part of me wanted to make him proud also that he had an influence in my life, and I felt that medicine was an area that I could make a difference in people's lives. The field of medicine was compelling for me, especially Orthopaedics, because I felt that this was an area or career that I could make a difference in people's lives. The ability to use my own hands and talents to help someone else is a very rewarding experience and I found that very compelling. What I enjoy about the practice now that I have been practicing for several years is the immediate gratification that I receive. When I can take someone's acute medical problem such as a fracture or their chronic problems such as a worn out joint and I can make a significant difference in the quality of life, I find it very rewarding, and I receive gratification from seeing the results that allow people to get back into their activities of daily life, and to get on with life where they do not need to have continued ongoing medical care.
