Do no harm? DOES MUCH HARM!
This doctor saw me once on an inpatient psych unit. I explained how I felt and how I believed certain things were contributing to my problems. Dr. Van D told me I was lying & put me on a hold. When I asked FOR THE FIRST TIME in 2-3 days why I hadn't been given my medications over days of being in the hospital I was noted as demanding medication (never happened) noted as entitled, and as having substance abuse disorder. Funny thing is, he was ok with adding medication to my inpatient list in oral form that he never talked to me about which were strong and dangerous antipsychotics that everyone I talked to on the unit were prescribed and even court ordered per this Dr. These medications had everyone almost constantly sedated, agitated and acting out of character. My doctor of 7 years had me on medication for years. My dose was never increased and I never ran out early however he noted an abuse disorder and bad mouthed my outpatient provider. I felt powerless and more hopeless than ever.

My experience with Dr. Doren has been exceptional. Finding psychiatrists that have compassion, knowledge, and a non judgmental attitude is hard to find. My visits feel professional, and I am comfortable talking about very difficult and personal medical items. He listens, and works with you to make plans with an understanding that needs might change. I would encourage others in need of help to schedule, it is well worth my money to have an amazing doctor help with my mental health. Thank you so very much for what you do for your patients!

Dr. James Van Doren is the best psychiatrist I’ve seen to date. If you’re looking expertise and someone who works with you and is detailed in explanations he’s the one to see. He’s private practice so you bill your insurance and your pay upfront. He’s not cheap but worth it 10x. Highest recommendation!!!!!!

I give him zero Stars. I've had the unfortunate event to have him as a doctor. I met him at Regions Hospital I've had him twice and both times he's left me in tears. He's very patronizing and condescending. I felt like he enjoyed hurting people like it made him feel better. It's not just me I've witnessed other people lose their emotional stability after meeting with him. He abuses his authority. to further back up my opinion; I know a good friend of mine from high school that actually join the Peace Corps and carries around a Bible because he loves Jesus so much and he wants to do good in the world, shadowed him at Regions Hospital in his behavior towards clients affected him so much he questioned whether or not he wanted to be a doctor! The saddest part is that's the way he treats vulnerable people in a psychiatric ward that have no ability to stand up for themselves thus he abuses his authority. I think he is sadistic and cruel.
