James A. Stewart, MD, a board certified physician, received both his undergraduate and medical degrees from West Virginia University. He completed his internal medicine internship and residency at St. Vincent's Hospital. Dr. Stewart served in the US Navy for two years as a general medical officer. Dr. Stewart is a Diplomate of the American Board of Internal Medicine, a member of the American College of Physicians, and past president of the Bon Secours Maryview Medical Staff. Dr. Stewart is an Ohio native. He is married and has two children. He has been in practice in the Portsmouth/Chesapeake area since 1978.

Internists of Churchland provides adults, 18 years and older, care for acute illnesses (colds, flu, fever, etc.) as well as chronic problems (high blood pressure, heart disease, diabetes, arthritis, lung, intestinal and kidney disorders, etc.) and preventive care (physical examinations, cancer screening and vaccinations). We provide care in the office, as a consultant and as a primary physician, and offer guidance when referral to other specialists is necessary.
