This content was provided by Dr. Saucedo "Dr. James Saucedo grew up near Houston in Rosenberg, Texas. As an undergraduate at Baylor University, he was active in various organizations, including Habitat for Humanity and the pre-medical honor society (Alpha Epsilon Delta). In addition to his pre-medical focus, he studied world cultures, world literature and international human rights. He was inducted into the Phi Beta Kappa honor society as a junior and graduated summa cum laude as a University Scholars major in 2003. Dr. Saucedo achieved his MD at Baylor College of Medicine in Houston, Texas where his classmates named him "Most Likely to Make Your Day". Even as a student, he recognized the need to better understand the health care system and enrolled at the Jesse H. Jones School of Business at Rice University, where he earned a Masters of Business Administration. While completing his residency in Orthopaedic Surgery in Chicago, Illinois at Northwestern University, he worked with his mentors to develop a "Business of Orthopaedics Lecture Series" that invites speakers to lecture on topics often left out of traditional medical curricula. Based on the success of the program, Dr. Saucedo was asked to help develop a similar series to be distributed to other residency programs (click herefor a recent article). A 2013 graduate, he was awarded the Brian Hartigan, MD Award for compassionate care, clinical excellence, and commitment to teaching. While in Fellowship Training in Hand and Microvascular Surgery at the University of Washington in Seattle, Washington he trained under Orthopaedic Surgery and Plastic Surgery-trained Hand Surgeons to care for patients with conditions ranging from severely injured trauma patients at Harborview Medical Center to children with congenital hand differences at Seattle Children's Hospital. Dr. James Saucedo and his family are excited to be back in Texas to be close to their family and serve their community. He is committed to the education and training of medical students, residents and fellows. His research interests are broad and include business education, cost and quality in medicine, and trauma and its sequelae in the upper extremity. He also has a particular interest in firework-related injuries to the hand and continues to work towards promoting public safety. He currently sits on the Business of Hand Surgery Committee and the International Relations Committee for the American Society for Surgery of the Hand (ASSH). He is also a volunteer reviewer for the Journal of Hand Surgery. He is happily married to his college sweetheart and enjoys spending time with family, traveling, reading, and listening to music. He is interested in international travel and medical missions."
