Dr. Muccio received his medical degree from the University of Virginia School of Medicine. He completed his residency at the University of North Carolina. He is certified by the American Board of Orthopaedic Surgery and holds a subspecialty certification in Sports Medicine. Although he specializes in sports medicine he also practices general orthopaedics including fracture care, arthroscopic, reconstructive, and joint replacement surgery. He has a special interest in the treatment of knee and shoulder injuries. Before becoming an orthopaedic surgeon, Dr. Muccio also earned a masters of science degree in Physiology & Biophysics from Georgetown University, and a bachelor of science degree in aerospace engineering from the University of Notre Dame. He had a career as an aerospace engineer for 8 years, working for the National Aeronautics and Space Agency (NASA) and the European Space Agency (ESA) as a Space Shuttle flight instructor and Space Station design engineer.
