He attended medical school at The University of Texas Medical School in Houston, residency at Hermann Hospital, and was a fellow at M. D. Anderson. In 1990, McBath entered his own practice in Houston, Texas with privileges at Tenet Park Plaza, HCA Women's Hospital of Texas and FanninSurgicare. He is a member of multiple associations, including the American Society of Breast Surgeons, Texas Medical Association and the Houston Surgical Society. Dr. Mark McBath serves as trustee at Woman's Hospital of Texas and is a liaison for the Cancer Committee to the American College of Surgeons. He also serves on the Speakers Bureau for the American Cancer Society of Houston and the Cancer Advisory Committee for St. Luke's Episcopal Hospital. In addition to this, he holds the appointment of Chief of Surgery, Section Chief of General Surgery, Chairman of the Cancer Advisory Board and Director of Surgical Intensive Care at the Park Plaza Hospital. McBath was published in the 2004 and 2005 edition of "Super Doc", a Texas monthly magazine, and was named one of America's top surgeons in 2010 and again in 2011. As of September 2014, he is the owner of a medically-supervised weight loss and wellness franchise out of his Woman's Hospital of Texas office, called Dr. G's Weight Loss and Wellness."
