Dr. Lizer: The Worst Psychiatrist Ever
Dr. Lizer lives in another world than the rest of us. He is quick to judge you. He prescribes very expensive medications without determining if you can afford them. Furthermore, he is arrogant and distances himself from your problems and doesn't seem genuinely interested or concerned. At times, I felt like I was going through an intense interrogation by law enforcement when being questioned. Dr. Lizer is not a preferred provider for most, if not all, insurance companies, which cost me a great deal of money. He is certainly NOT a kind and caring doctor. Going to any other psychiatrist would be preferable to seeing Dr. James Lizer in Winchester, VA.

I was seeing Dr. Lizer around 10 years ago. He is a controlling and nonempathetic quack. He discharged me from his practice after I had a breakdown in his office without regard to who I would see for psychiatric care. He is a heartless doctor.

I have been seeing Dr. Lizer for several years. He was very helpful in getting me on the meds that allowed me to function at my very best. He respected when I had any med reactions. I kept my follow ups and after a period of being stable he changed me to yearly visits and filled my meds for a full year. Interestingly, his reviews are either 4-5 stars or 1 star, but when I read several of the 1 star reviews, it sounds like they cancelled their follow up appts. Psychiatrists are particularly on the hook if they aren't seeing patients regularly and then if the pt hurts themself or others. I can understand his not wanting to be their prescriber if they are cancelling follow ups. Just my humble opinion.

This Psychiatrist has no business treating elderly patients. He would not communicate with the primary care physician and when the patient stated she was confused about when to take her meds he told her to make an appointment. Sorry but psychological meds are not a “wait for an appointment “ situation. The patient ended up in the hospital and ultimately had seizures. Yes the patient needs to take meds appropriately, but it is the practitioner’s responsibility to help them when they ask for it. I would not recommend this practitioner and have considered reporting him to the board of medicine.

He is not kind or caring. I would fall down and he didn’t ask if I was okay. For along time he told me I had conversion disorder. Two days later after I left his practice. My neurologist told me I was in early stage of vascular dementia. He is a psychiatrist and he couldn’t it figure it out. Instead he said I was faking it. He would make me feel worse than I already do.

Terrible Dr and person. Was referred by my GP. The first visit he requested my prescription information from my GP. I went again 2 weeks later for a follow up visit. 2 weeks after the 2nd visit, I went to pick up my regular monthly prescriptions and found out he had cancelled my refills for Prozac and Lamictal. He refused to renew them unless I came in for another appointment even though he wasn't changing the medicine or dosage. Never had this experience with any other Dr in my life.

I would not recommend this phsychiatirst to treat a snake. Nor would I recommend either of the two NP’s that are under him. He is uncaring, uncompassionate and treats his patients with as if he was their parent, punishing them by withholding medications that cause severe withdrawal symptoms if stopped abruptly or decreased, if he feels they have not followed instructions adequately! The patient is not allowed to participate in their own care and he runs the practice like a dicitator! Avoid him!

Dr Lizer is an exceptional human being, and brilliant professional. I'm a healthy person, but circumstances got me into position to need and benefit from, his expertise. He’s been treating me for 3 years for ADD. He is the first doctor that was able to diagnose me correctly. He was consistently empathetic, warm, and concerned. He is very focused, practical, and spot on with medication, and drastically surpassed all psychiatrists I have ever dealt with.
