I did not have a good experience with Dr. Chen. He was brief, abrupt, made me feel like I was wasting his time. Refused to answer my questions about post-op care. Difficult to get information. Even though website offers CPMC as a choice, he could not manage to get the hospital assignment, so tried to put me in St. Marys, after I made it clear I only wanted to go to CPMC. I finally went to a different surgeon, and so glad I did.

Dr Chen is a very pleasant doctor who took the time to ensure that I was well informed. My recovery has been flawless. No pain, no swelling, no nothing. I start PT next week, and am looking forward to a full recovery. So far so good.

This is my second arthroscopic surgery within 18 months w/ Dr Chen. My left knee and now my right knee. My first experience was so smooth, from his staff, appointments, approach and expertise before during and after surgery, that I knew immediately who I wanted the moment I injured my right knee ! I am especially pleased this time around, too, because I am familiar with the whole process, attention, efficiency and enthusiastically recommend Dr Chen. Thank you

Exceptional care. Knowledgeable, takes time to explain injury and how he plans to fix things. Uses easy to understand verbiage for a non medical person. Appointments at his office run on time or early. When my procedure at the hospital was delayed, his apologies were genuine and in person. Post surgery instructions have been effective and the pain minimal. Highly recommend.

I broke my clavicle and Dr. Chen got me into surgery very quickly. My bones are soft and he was able get me back to being an active person again in a few months. He is very accessible and you know he cares about each patient. Hopefully I won't but if I ever need another surgery I will definitely be back with Dr. Chen

Dr. Chen is very sincere in his relationship with me (patient). Explains everything clearly, asks me questions, asks if I have questions. He is the kind of doctor who is very professional, but also makes the patient feel comfortable and confident as their doctor. Conversations with Dr. Chen is almost like I talking to one of my nephews or a trusted family member.

I had Dr. Chen referred to me by a friend and I would be well pleased to pass the referral on to another friend should the situation arise. Dr. Chen's skill and knowledge are evident and this has been very reassuring to me throught this process. His use of technology (YouTube, HealthLoop) worked very well for me and kept me informed.

I had two knee surgeries with Dr. Chen in 2016 - ACL repair and a meniscus transplant. He always took time to talk over all options, and our appointments were always thorough and never rushed. He also answered all my additional questions post and pre op using an online messaging system which was incredibly helpful. He's the best and I am fortunate to have such an awesome surgeon! Can't recommend him enough.

Dr. Chen explained my various options in detail and guided me toward a decision without being too pushy. Once I made the decision, the clavicle surgery went smoothly, and his communication throughout in the weeks afterward has been great.

I had a right shoulder rotator cuff repair, Subacromial Decompression and lateral debridement surgery with Dr. James Chen on Oct 27, 2015. The surgery was quick and safety. Although I'm nearly 70, but after only 3 months, my arm can move freely again. I recently felt pain in my left shoulder and the MRI revealed the same problem as my right shoulder. Of course Dr. Chen will do the job again. Why? Because he is the BEST and the one I TRUST.
