Dr. Rutledge is the Director of the Metabolic Surgery Center and co-director of Memorial's Surgical Weight Loss Center of Excellence Program. He is dedicated to helping his patient's experience better health through weight loss. He understands the complex biochemical aspect of metabolism as it relates to weight loss.
After receiving his Doctorate of Medicine at the University of Southern Alabama, Dr. Rutledge completed a surgery residency at East Tennessee State Medical School. He practiced general, vascular and trauma surgery for several years until becoming interested in bariatric surgery in 2002. Dr. Rutledge completed additional surgical training in laparoscopic microsurgery at the Operative Endoscopy Institute in San Francisco, California and completed a bariatric proctorship at the University of Birmingham in Alabama.
Dr. Rutledge is board certified by the American Board of Surgeons and is a member of the American Society of Metabolic and Bariatric Surgeons. Since 2002, Dr. Rutledge has performed over 2000 successful laparoscopic weight loss surgeries.
