This content was provided by Dr. Olson Jr Age is just a variable. It's not an absolute. And we try - basically in a nutshell we try to figure out their physiological age. I have an eighty-year-old who can stand on her head in a yoga pose for any number of minutes. I have fifty-eight-year-olds who have not taken care of themselves and who are in much worse shape than some of my ninety-year-olds. You can get a hip done very, very well. You can get a new heart. You can get your heart revascularized. But the overwhelming question is: We have all these procedures that can be done - and that may or may not need to be done - but is that appropriate? The ultimate goal is to optimize the outcome in every way - spiritually, functionally, physically - for the patient and their families.
