Dr. Stoev's bio

This content was provided by Dr. Stoev "I was born in Bulgaria and came to the USA by myself when I turned 18yrs of age. Through hard work and dedication, I managed to put myself through school on my own. I finished high school , college and medical school without financial assistance from anyone, so I am proud to say that I am a self-made man. I graduated with honors from the University of Miami School of Medicine in Miami, Fl. in 2006 as a member of the elite medical honor society Alpha Omega Alpha. I was among the top 10 students in my class and got one of the highest Step I USMLE Board score in the history of my medical school which placed me in the top 1% of all US medical students. I started residency training at Washington University and Barnes-Jewish Hospital Neurological Surgery program in St Louis, MO in July 2006 and graduated in June 2013. The hospital and the neurosurgical program there have been consistently rated in the top 10 in the country. In addition to receiving training from some of the best in the world, I was involved in a quality improvement committee which strived to improve efficiency and patient outcomes. I also completed a fellowship in Neurological surgery and biomedical engineering innovation developing prototypes for biomedical devices. As a part of my residency training I spent 6 months in Dublin, Ireland, working as a senior registrar in Neurosurgery at Beaumont Hospital. This allowed me to work independently and to develop flexibility and resourcefulness when technology is lacking. During my residency I was given the "Best Consultant" award and selected from hundreds of specialist physicians at Barnes-Jewish hospital in 2008. I was also awarded the highest Neurological Surgery Boards Score in my class in 2010. I completed a spine fellowship training at the University of Miami Department of Neurosurgery and graduated in June 2014. "
