Dr. Rubin left me with one of the most painful memories I have. When I was just 16 years old, he scrubbed a cut I had on my arm and said, "this is what you wanted, isn't it?" He was implying that I wanted pain because the cut was self-inflicted. What he didn't ask about were my conditions at home. What he didn't ask about is how many times I had done that to myself. What he didn't ask about is why I would inflict such a serious wound on myself. He was so terrible it haunts me to this day.
