Dr. Deitz's bio
This content was provided by Dr. Deitz "I have devoted my professional career to treating patients using a combined psychological and brain-based approaches which are tailored individually to each patient's needs; I always keep in mind that psychotherapy can be a very potent biological treatment, so I generally eschew the treatment model of the brief psychopharmacological appointment although I work closely with treating psychotherapists to optimize patient care. Many substance use disordered patients also have bona fide psychiatric disorders (either mood disorder or PTSD) that must be addressed in order for full response to treatment to be achieved. I also feel it is very important to teach the next generation of psychiatrist and am engaged in teaching medical students at Quinnipiac University Medical School as well as teaching and supervising psychiatrists-in-training at Mount Sinai South Hospital (formerly Beth Israel Medical Center) in New York City. I obtained a BA with honors in psychology and chemistry from the University of Pennsylvania I graduated from the University of Maryland School of Medicine with honors in medicine, adolescent medicine, and neuroscience research (Department of Experimental Therapeutics at Johns Hopkins School of Medicine, where I conducted award-winning neuroscience research). During psychiatry training at the University of Pennsylvania I also trained in psychoanalysis at the Philadelphia Institute of Psychoanalysis and was board certified in psychoanalysis by the National Association for the Advancement of Psychoanalysis."
