Dr. Feder's bio

This content was provided by Dr. Feder "Dr Feder was born and raised in Germany and is fluent in both English and German. She obtained her undergraduate education at Fordham University College at Lincoln Center and received a Bachelor of Arts in Psychology, summa cum laude, in 1986. She studied Medicine at SUNY Stony Brook and was awarded a Doctor of Medicine in 1990. She then completed a Family Medicine Residency at the University Hospital at Stony Brook, where she also served as Chief Resident and graduated in 1993 with distinction. After graduation, she accepted a position in Academic Medicine and served as Assistant Professor and Clinical Instructor at the Department of Family Medicine at the University Hospital at Stony Brook. During this time she also served as consulting physician for the foster care division of Little Flower Children's Services in Wading River. At the same time, she was the Medical Director for NORRELL Home Health Care as well as a Staff Physician with the Suffolk County Department of Health in Coram, New York. Driven by a need to help the most underserved population in America, Dr Feder then moved to Montana where she served as Medical Officer for the Indian Health Service during which time she and her young family lived on the Crow Reservation. Dr Feder spearheaded efforts to identify Native American Youths at risk for depression and suicide and also served as the Medical Liaison for the Substance Abuse Program at the Crow and Northern Cheyenne Hospital. Additionally, she served as Medical Director for Big Horn County Hospice in Hardin, Montana. During her time in Montana, Dr Feder participated in several sun dances and was adopted into the Crow tribe, which is something she is very proud of. To this day, she is closely connected to her Crow family. In 1998, Dr Feder moved once again back East and rejoined the faculty of the Department of Family Medicine at the University Hospital at Stony Brook as Clinical Assistant Professor of Family Medicine, Associate Director of Predoctoral Education, Associate Director of the Inpatient Service and Director of the Home Visitation Program. She has taught and mentored numerous medical students and residents and has also lectured at the School of Dental Medicine at Stony Brook University Hospital. Additionally, Dr Feder has served as the President and CEO of Healing Hands of Gambia which she co-founded with her husband and which was a nonprofit organization dedicated to bringing much needed medical services and equipment to The Gambia, West Africa. For Healing Hands, Dr Feder traveled to The Gambia to work in a rural clinic and to lecture students at the Medical College in Banjul on HIVAIDS. More than fifteens years ago, Dr Feder left Long Island for Connecticut, where she served as Staff Physician and Medical Director at the Community Health Center in New London. For the last ten years, Dr Feder has been serving the inpatient population at Lawrence and Memorial Hospital in New London as a Hospitalist. She maintains admission privileges to Lawrence and Memorial Hospital as well as Westerly Hospital in Rhode Island. She is particularly dedicated to palliative care and has been appointed Chair of the Ethics Committee. In addition, Dr Feder is on staff at the Beechwood Rehabilitation Center in New London. Dr Feder is licensed to practice medicine in Connecticut and Rhode Island and is board certified in Family Medicine. In summary, Dr Feder's background is extremely broad and varied, and her attitude is holistic with particular attention to mind-body issues. In 2016, she opened a private practice for primary care patients, aged 12 to 100 and up, in order to provide excellent and personal medical care in an environment where patients suffer under failed corporate models of medical care that reduce both patient and doctor to a number, leaving everybody unhappy. Her office is now located directly across from Lawrence and Memorial Hospital, providing easy access to all diagnostic and laboratory services."

Dr. Feder Says:

I am proud and honored when patients choose me and my office to be their medical home, and we do our utmost to provide the best medical care possible. We all know that our current medical environment is not always easy to navigate. This sometimes leaves people frustrated and upset for reasons not under our control and not at all related to our willingness and ability to provide care. At times, these frustrations express themselves

I have been to many doctors in my 80 years and have never met any that has treated me with the dignity that she does. She is my last hope and I know now that my needs will be taken care of. Amazing doctor.

Hands down phenomenal doctor. Like her new place a lot. It’s right across the street from the hospital. This new office suits her. The staff is great and her time is worth so much. Me and my husband both have her as a doctor, and she is irreplaceable. I’ve never had a doctor like her.
