Care Philosophy

I often remind my patients that even though I am a surgeon, I am also a patient. I understand full well when any patient is apprehensive about a needed surgery because I as a patient would (and have) felt the same way. My care philosophy is based on the simple idea that the care I offer my patient is the same I would want offered to my family member or to myself. In general, the smaller the operation that can be used to solve the problem, the better.Read more

Dr. Hugo Benalcazar was an angel sent from Heaven. He not only saved my daughter's life once; but twice. She was born with a condition called Hydrocephalus. She required a shunt at 2 1/2 months old; in order to relieve the pressure on her brain, due to the blockage. At 10 years of age, she developed headaches. He immediately ordered the appropriate testing (CT Scan and a Shunt Series). Shunt needed to be replaced. Again, saved her life x2. Forever grateful.

Why Does Experience Matter?

Even specialists specialize. One orthopedic surgeon might do nothing but hip surgeries, while another does nothing but knees. If you want the best possible care, it’s critical to match your medical need with the doctor who truly specializes in treating it.
